Flood Services Canada Saves and Salvages Property in Toronto

Flood Services Canada comments on a recent property it helped save after a severe flooding threatened to destroy it.

Flood Services Canada (www.FloorServices.ca), the Greater Toronto Area’s leading 24-hour response team, has undertaken remediation action on behalf of a local claims-adjusting firm in regards to a property in the Avenue and Lawrence area that suffered significant damage due to a burst pipeline. The burst occurred within a supply line in the master en suite and soaked through to the basement.

“The damage was extensive,” Chad Vanvari, the owner of Flood Services Canada, recalled. “Fortunately, teams got on site within an hour of the initial call and were able to control the damage.”

Nine Flood Services workers employed a mixture of portable and truck-mounted water extractors along with the necessary drying equipment. Per the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration (IICRC) standards, water was fully extracted before workers turned their attention to removing affected building materials.

“The hardwood flooring and baseboards from the master bedroom had to be removed,” notes Vanvari. “The kitchen needed drywall, cabinetry, and certain doors removed as well. Only the appliances and the sink were able to remain, unfortunately. The biggest loss was to the building materials in the basement living room.”

Along with removing any affected building materials to preserve the integrity of the house, a drying phase continued to address any lingering pockets of wetness within the walls that could promote mould growth or other difficulties. The renovation and repair phase is slated to begin once the rest of the affected building materials have been properly removed and the area has been fully dried.

“In total, the flooding approximately caused over $200,000 in damages,” Vanvari reveals. “But, even though 90% of the affected building materials had to be disposed of, without prompt remediation, the property could have suffered much more damage.”
