Renowned VW custom restoration shop located in Hazel Green, AL, Airkooled Kustoms, is going to show off the custom “Darkside” restored 1967 Karmann Ghia Convertible in a viewing open to the public in the city of Huntsville, AL. This custom Ghia can be seen at Hiley Volkswagen of Huntsville.

Airkooled Kustoms is a Volkswagen and Porsche restoration shop local to Hazel Green, AL. The shop’s award-winning custom restoration of the 1967 Karmann Ghia Convertible will be displayed at Huntsville’s Hiley Volkswagen until early July 2019. This new installation is going to be especially engaging for VW fans in the area who have loved these vintage convertibles for years. Many current Volkswagen enthusiasts would love the chance to recreate and restore the original vehicles which they have enjoyed for decades.

This gorgeous Ghia is the remarkable result of an eight-month restoration. “It’s a level four restoration,” said shop owner Eric “Spook” LeClair, “Definitely worth the time it took to recreate.” With a sleek black TMI interior, this classic Karmann Ghia convertible now sports a 1776 cc engine, front disc brakes, and a 3-way Flyer transmission.

The Volkswagen and Porsche restoration specialists from Hazel Green are known for many of their custom classic restorations over the years. Among their restorations are a 1959 Ragtop Beetle which was voted “People’s Choice” at the Las Vegas Ultimate VW Build-Off. Currently, the specialists are hard at work on a rare 1952 Zwitter Beetle, a 1965 Karmann Ghia, a 1973 Porsche 914-6, and multiple other custom and bone stock restorations. Yet, they aren’t limited to full car restorations. The team at Airkooled Kustoms also provides maintenance, end-to-end repairs, bodywork, and interiors for air-cooled VWs and Porsches. Equipped for custom and standard jobs, the team works on transmissions, electrical, engines, wheels, mechanical, and also high-end, full-service restoration.

The 1967 Karmann Ghia Convertible on display was left to sit for more than a decade at another shop tasked with its restoration before being transported from Ohio to Airkooled Kustoms. “Frozen in time for so long, this custom restoration has been a rewarding job and we’re excited to show it off to VW lovers from our area in Huntsville since it’s a model that enthusiasts will love to see restored and recreated,” added LeClair.
