Alfa Chemistry Announced to Provide Polymer Products

Alfa Chemistry announced its intention to provide a wide range of different polymer products, especially functional polymers.

New York, United States – November 28, 2019 /MarketersMedia/

On November 25, 2019, Alfa Chemistry announced its intention to provide a wide range of different polymer products, especially functional polymers, for meeting the various needs from customers.

A polymer is a compound with high molecular weight, which is connected by one or several structural units through covalent bonds, and is also called macromolecular compound. For example, polyvinyl chloride is repeatedly formed from the structural units of vinyl chloride, and its molecular formula can be abbreviated as [—CH2—CHCl—] n, where n is the number of structural units (or repeating units), also known as the degree of polymerization. If adding several structural units to a high molecular weight polymer does not significantly affect its physical and mechanical properties, such a polymer is called a high polymer. If adding a few structural units to a polymer with a very low degree of polymerization (a few to several tens) has a significant impact on its performance, this polymer is referred to as an oligomer.

Classification of polymers
1 According to the elemental composition of the main chain, polymers can be divided into three categories: carbon chain polymers, heterochain polymers, and element organic polymers.
Carbon chain polymers: The main chain of a carbon chain polymer is composed entirely of carbon atoms, such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, polybutadiene, etc.. Carbon chain polymers are the main general-purpose polymers and the foundation of the plastics and rubber industries.
Heterochain polymers: In addition to carbon atoms, the main chain of a heterochain polymer contains heteroatoms such as oxygen, sulfur, and nitrogen. Heterochain polymers include polyether, polyester, polyamide, polyurethane and polysulfone, etc., and are mainly used as engineering plastics and synthetic fibers.
Element organic polymers: The main chain of elemental organic polymers (eg.polysiloxane) is mainly composed of silicon, boron, aluminum, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus and other atoms. Their side chains are generally organic groups such as methyl, vinyl, and phenyl. They are mainly used as special materials which are resistant to oil, high temperature and flame.

2 According to the properties of materials, polymers can be divided into plastics (eg. polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, and polystyrene), fibers (eg. nylon, polyester, acrylic, and vinylon) and rubbers (eg. butadiene rubber, isoprene rubber and ethylene propylene rubber).

3 According to the applications of polymers, polymers can be divided into engineering materials, biomimetic polymers, medical polymers, polymer drugs, polymer reagents, polymer catalysts and biopolymers, etc. .

4 According to the source of materials, polymers can be divided into natural polymers (eg. cellulose, protein, silk, rubber, starch) and synthetic polymers (eg. polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, phenolic resin) and semi-synthetic polymers (eg. cellulose acetate).

5 According to the classification of their synthetic reactions, polymers can be divided into addition polymers, condensation polymers (ie, polycondensates), and ring-opening polymers.

The polymers provided by Alfa Chemistry include:
General polymers: General polymers refer to commonly used polymer materials, such as polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and nylon.

Engineering materials: Engineering materials are polymer materials with special properties such as high temperature resistance and radiation resistance. Engineering polymer materials include boron-containing polymers, polyoxymethylene, polycarbonate, polyimide, polyarylene ether, polyaramide, and fluorine-containing macromolecules.

Functional polymers: In addition to its mechanical properties, functional polymers also have other specific functions such as chemical activity, photosensitivity, electrical conductivity, catalytic activity, biocompatibility, and pharmacological properties. The function of a functional polymer depends not only on the chemical structure of the polymer chain, the sequence distribution of the structural units, the branch chain, the three-dimensional structure and other primary structures, but also on the conformation of polymer chains. Functional polymers include photosensitive polymers, conducting polymers, catalytic polymers and medical polymers.
