Getting an unexpected flat tire can ruin anyone’s day, and driving with a spare tire can also put the driver at further risk due to lower recommended speed limits while using. Driving at slower speeds can further lead unknowing fellow drivers on the road to become upset, bothered or annoyed. The Caution Spare Tire in Use is a bright, reflective safety magnet that aims to solve this problem by sending a vibrant message to other drivers on the road.
“I had come up with this amazing safety product because I happened to have 5 flat tires in one year and I had to drive on those terrible spare tires that most cars come with,” says Bird Dog founder and creator Michael K. Malin on the inspiration behind the project. “Now unfortunately, I had to drive a very far distance one of the times while I had a spare tire on. That time also happened to be at the end of a long weekend trip away with family and there was no tire shops open to fix the tire so we had no choice but to drive the distance. We had to drive on a one-way road most of the trip home. What made me come up with this product idea is that the designated speed limit was much higher than the recommended speed of the spare tire.”
The ‘Caution: Spare Tire In Use’ driver safety magnet incorporates a bold symbols for daytime use, and honeycomb reflective technology to provide and ensure the highest visibility at night. The color of the magnet acts as an attractive communication sign for other drivers to ensure clear communication that there is a spare tire in use, This helps with safety for both established or new drivers. “From our research there is nothing better on the market and nothing like this is the first and only of it’s kind. The only other thing that people have done in the past was to drive with their hazards lights on when going slower and under the speed limit, but that can also lead to confusion to other drivers and the hazards lights tend to single someone possibly have an engine troubles or in a another kind of crisis/hazards,” adds Malin. “It’s not the most ideal solution when driving on a spare tire that is why our alternative option is superior.”
