American Society of Plastic Surgery Reports Male Cosmetic Surgery Procedures on the Rise

The American Society of Plastic Surgeon has just released its annual statistical report. The report states that the number of surgical and non-surgical procedures between 2013-2014 stayed very consistent. Despite the overall consistency there have been some shifts in who is getting what procedure done. The number of men having cosmetic procedures is on the rise with liposuction being one of the most popular amongst men.

Dr Adam Tattelbaum a Maryland Plastic Surgeon with three location in Northern Virginia, Annapolis Md and Rockville Maryland has seen a significant increase in the amount of men having cosmetic surgery procedures. Dr. Adam Tattlebaum confirms a recent report by the Americann Society of Plastic Surgeons that men are having more cosmetic procedures performed.

Dr. Tattelbaum says, “men are becoming more acceptable of cosmetic surgery for two reasons, social media exposure and TV shows discussing men having these procedures done”. He goes on to say, “after the finanical crisis a few years back more men are opting for cosmetic surgery to help them compete in the work force and help with their confidence”. Dr. Tattelbaum reports that the most common procedures he is seeing men have done is liposuction, hair transplant, and male breast reduction.

The most popular procedure amongst men and women was liposuction for 2014. With a total number of procedure performed clocking in at 342,494. Other popular procedures were breast augmentation, eyelid surgery, tummy tuck and nose surgery. Breast reduction surgery for men to treat Gynecomasti is also on the rise, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons over the past five years male breast reduction surgery has risen by 33%. During that same time period men having eyelid surgery rose by 33% and facelifts increased by 44%.

Dr. Tattelbaum is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. He attended medical school at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City where he received Honors in his plastic surgical rotation. He was Chief Resident at New York’s Mount Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Tattelbaum completed his plastic surgery training at Georgetown University and Harvard University. He is currently a member of the clinical faculty at Georgetown, where he has taught. He is an attending physician at many regional hospitals.

Dr. Tattelbaum is a double Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who is dual certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery as well as the American Board of Surgery. He is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery which serves as a mark of distinction for Plastic Surgeons focused on Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

He was listed in “America’s Top Surgeons” by the Consumer Research Council of America and has appeared multiple times in Washingtonian Magazine’s list of top plastic surgeons. He is a founder and a senior partner of Washington Plastic Surgery Group in Rockville, Maryland.
