AndroGel Lawsuit Alleges Testosterone Replacement Therapy Led To Heart Attack
August 25, 2015 – – Banville Law reports on a products liability lawsuit filed against defendants AbbVie Inc. and Abbott Laboratories in relation to their testosterone replacement therapy drug AndroGel.
This particular lawsuit was filed by a man from Rhode Island who had been prescribed AndroGel at the age of 63 for the treatment of symptoms that were attributed to low testosterone.
The man then suffered a heart attack and other emotional damages which he claims were a result of his use of AndroGel.
The complaint, which was filed under case 1:14-cv-00772, alleges that the defendants misrepresented and continue to misrepresent the safety and efficacy of AndroGel.
Additionally, the lawsuit asserts that the the defendants hid facts and information from the public about the potential dangers of AndroGel which the defendants had known about or should have known about.
The plaintiff in this case seeks compensation for economic and non-economic damages incurred as a result of his use of AndroGel.
Is Low T Therapy Dangerous?
AndroGel is a popular testosterone replacement therapy medication which was first approved by the FDA in 2000 to treat hypogonadism.
After receiving FDA approval in 2000, AndroGel became one of the leading testosterone replacement therapy medications in the American market with the help of an aggresive marketing campaign.
However, several medical studies have now been published which have found a significant association between popular testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) drugs and harmful side effects such as heart attack or stroke.
In fact, the results from one study entitled “Association of Testosterone Therapy with Mortality, Myocardial Infarcation, and Stroke in Men with Low Testosterone Levels” suggested that testosterone therapy increased the risk of heart attack, stroke and death by approximately 30%.
These findings have led men throughout America to seek justice by filing lawsuits against the companies responsible for producing and distributing testosterone replacement medications.
“More men are filing lawsuits each day as they learn about the dangerous side effects that have been associated with low testoterone drugs,” said Laurence Banville, Esq. of Banville Law.
“The total number of complaints filed in the low testosterone MDL already exceeds 3,000 and we expect this number to continue to grow at a rapid pace.”
