The small village of Warrens, WI is regionally known as the Cranberry Capital of Wisconsin. According to the USDA National Agriculture Statistics service, putting Wisconsin at the top of the list of cranberry producers nationwide, the tiny community could also claim the title of Cranberry Capital of America. But on the last weekend of September, Warrens celebrates an even more exciting honor as the largest Cranberry Festival in the world commences for the 43nd consecutive year.
Among the many factors that make the Warrens Cranberry Festival unique is that, since its founding in 1973, the event has been – and still is – a strictly non-profit venture, with all proceeds being funneled directly back into the community. With anticipated attendance topping 120,000 in 2015, Cranfest has come a long way in its efforts toward community betterment since its 1970s inception, which drew just 3500 attendees – a respectable number for a first effort, but a mere drop in the proverbial bucket in comparison to the international allure of the event today.
The Cranberry Festival features a whopping three miles of shopping and approximately 1300 unique vendors, including 850 arts and crafts booths offering an eclectic mix of original handmade items. Among them, the rising local-regional wine accessory artisans of Woodsy Wino plan to introduce an extra touch of “charm” for this year’s Cranfest shoppers to enjoy.
Woodsy Wino owner-artisan, Jennifer Finnell, is quite enthusiastic to introduce her unique brand of what she terms “wine bling” to a new audience of wine lovers. She explains, “Woodsy Wino specializes in handmade wine accessories of many sorts, but we are most excited to introduce our one-of-a-kind, patent-pending design of stemless wine glass charms. I love to hear our customers’ reactions to the new design, but most of all, I love giving them something different – something to be as excited about as I am.”
While the world’s largest Cranberry Festival might not seem to have much to do with wine on the surface, Finnell adds, “Wine lovers are everywhere! Woodsy Wino is here to make that wine experience even more enjoyable. And to take home some awesome Wisconsin cranberry preserves.”
The Warrens Cranberry Festival will happen September 25-27, 2015, with a multitude of family-friendly activities and shopping from 7am-6pm on Friday and Saturday, and from 7am-5pm on Sunday.
