As E-Cigarette Explosion Lawsuit Filings Increase, Alleged Victim Says More Must Be Done
May 23, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on a recent update from NBC 4 Southern California which details current news surrounding a man who allegedly lost his eye last month when the battery of his e-cigarette exploded, sending debris toward his head. The man is now reportedly speaking out following last week’s announcement that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration will begin to review hundreds of brands of e-cigarette devices. The agency noted that they would regulate some of the batteries which are being used in the devices, and would also oversee the amount of nicotine that goes into each. But, after claiming that he lost an eye from an e-cigarette explosion, one man has demanded that more needs to be done to better regulate e-cigarettes.
The man states that on April 15th of 2016 he was smoking an e-cigarette while working in his home office when he placed the device on his desk. It suddenly exploded, according to the man, launching debris toward his head and igniting a fire on his computer. The man is quoted as stating, “If I would have had that in my hand or up in my mouth when it went off…I’m grateful it wasn’t worse.”
It was reported that the debris from the e-cigarette device managed to smash his orbital and sinus bones and that it has left pieces of shrapnel in his eyeball. Unfortunately as the article discusses, this man is not the only one to report suffering significant damage after an e-cigarette explosion. The release states that “In February, a man in San Diego was taken to a hospital with burns on his leg caused by one such explosion.”
