As E-Cigarette Explosion Reports Rise, Queens Resident Files E-Cig Explosion Lawsuit Case For Damages

July 07, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on a number of incidents related to the explosion of e-cigs causing severe physical damage to those using the devices. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has documented in excess of 25 explosions since the devices were introduced on the consumer market in 2007, yet that number is thought to be much higher due to underreporting of device explosions. One such incident involves a woman from Queens, New York.

As per NBCNewYork.com the woman suffered significant burns after her e-cigarette exploded. The woman states the device was in her pocket at the time of the explosion which caused damage to her knee, as it tore through her jeans. The incident took place while she was parking her car on April 7, 2016.

It is assumed that the instability of the lithium-ion battery caused the explosion. The lithium-ion battery is what is used to power the device. When the explosion occurred, it propelled the battery and lodged it into her dashboard. The woman expressed shock and surprise that such a thing could have happened. After the incident, she was taken to the hospital where doctors determined she suffered 3rd-degree burns and needed surgery to repair the damage done to her skin in the proximity of her knee.

Unfortunately, this is not the first instance of an exploding e-cig and given the increasing popularity of the devices, it probably will not be the last either. In fact, a similar incident occurred just a few weeks after the Queens, New York explosion as reported by the Atlanta Journal Constitution. The newspaper reported that a man required treatment for burns sustained when his e-cig exploded in his pocket. After the explosion, he was left covered in black soot.
