As Number Of Reported E-Cig Explosions Rises, Potential E-Cigarette Explosion Lawsuits Cases Increase

July 21, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on the number of e-cigarette explosions that have occurred in the state of Oklahoma since 2009. With 8 reported explosions, the state is in the top three states with the highest verified e-cig explosion cases, as per a timeline developed by TheProductLawyers.com. There are only 2 other states with totals higher than Oklahoma’s: California with 19 and Arizona with 11. The rate at which the explosions have happened has increased drastically during the past 3.5 years with yearly totals in 2013, 2014 and 2015 being 28, 38, and 47, respectively. 2016 has seen 77 e-cig explosions so far.

One of these instances was reported by KSN.com. On April 18th a 19-year old was the victim of an e-cig explosion leaving him with second and third-degree burns on his hands and legs when his e-cig ignited in his pocket. When the man tried to throw the burning battery away from him, it got stuck on his glove, which he used for work. The victim stated after the incident that he had never felt such pain before and never expected such an event to happen to him.

It should be noted that unlike many retailers and suppliers of e-cigs, the outlet that sold the e-cig to the man, the Oklahoma City Vapor Lounge, did inform the victim of the potential risks of using an e-cig. The owner of the lounge also said that many first-time users do not realize the dangers associated with using the devices.

Attorney Marc Freund of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, & Moverman commented on the Oklahoma City explosion. He wished the man a speedy and full recovery from his injuries. He is very thankful the victim was at work and wearing gloves, as the damages could have been much worse. In many other instances, victims have sustained far worse injuries and significant property damage.
