Native American Veterans Exhibit – honoring contributions of Native Americans in the Military across the different Eras.

ANGEL FIRE, New Mexico, USA –In the first week of August this year, the Native American Veterans Exhibit will be opening at the New Mexico State Vietnam Veterans Memorial and hosted by the New Mexico Department of Veteran’s Services. The exhibit is to honor Native American Veterans of all eras who have served the United States. The exhibit explores the untold stories of Native peoples’ contributions as the highest percentage of any race of people per capita to serve in the military through bios, personal effects, personal accounts and stories.

An example of the bios, stories, and effects of Native American Veterans to be featured include everything from the illustrious Wes Studi (US Army Veteran, Cherokee, Actor: “Dances with Wolves”, “Last of the Mohicans”, and “Hostiles”) who delivered the tribute to military veterans at the 90th Academy Awards ceremony with a shout out to Native American veterans in Cherokee at the end, Congress woman Tulsi Gabbard (US Army Veteran, Samoan), Alex K. Rojas (US Army Veteran, Quechua/Apache, Congressional Award for Outstanding Humanitarian Service), as well as other every day hometown heroes in our community.

The opening ceremony will take place on August 4th, 2018 at 12 PM (MDT) with a commemoration by TyAnn Nakai, a 13 year veteran of the US Marine Corps and US Air Force. TyAnn was the group leader of the New Mexican Native American Veterans for Standing Rock, including the descendants of the Navajo Code Talkers, and various Native American tribes were represented. She will be overseeing the exhibit which she sees as part of her healing vision to show love and gratitude for those Native American warriors and veterans often overlooked and forgotten.

Speaking with Ms TyAnn Nakai, will be Lt Col (Ret) Chuck Howe, Mayor Pro-tiéme of Angel Fire, President of the David Westphall Foundation, and President of the National Veterans Wellness and Healing Center.

Joining the speakers at the event are Ryan Begay (USAF Veteran, Actor: “Sicario: Day of the Soldado”, “Breaking Bad”, Videographer/Photographer) and Teddy Draper III (Marine Recon Veteran, Artist & Certified Personal Trainer, Son of Late Navajo Code talker Teddy Draper Sr.).

The opening ceremony will include appearances by Jack R. Fox, the Secretary of the New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services, Nancy De Santis (Co-Founder and Programs Director of Horses for Heroes, Cowboy Up), and Kelly Noble Zunie, representing “Military Families” who will be joining the Native American Veterans gathered to show their support.

Music for the opening ceremony will include blessings and songs by NAC recording artist Eldridge Etsitty to honor and soothe the souls of those warriors in attendance and those who never made it home.
