“Homeowners along lakeshore had to deal with the level of lake getting too high and causing water to splash on their homes,” said Beato. “Basement waterproofing provides a barrier against water that seeps in.”

The water that splashes up on the house could seep in through windows or doors that are not adequately sealed. And it can flood the basement at ground level. So residents were keeping a watch on things.

Homeowners along the lakeshore were out early Sunday morning surveying damage from the ice, grateful there wasn’t more of it. Neighbors along the lake are relieved the ice wasn’t quite so bad, but the height of the water continues to cause concern. High waves can still do damage.

For people who lived in the area through the well-known ice storm of 1991, and even last year’s wind storm, Saturday night’s storm was tame but still left its mark in this area with downed trees and some power outages.
