Coral Gables, FL Author Publishes Tribute to Late Wife

Mending Children’s Broken Hearts, a new book by Armando I. Perez, Ph.D., has been released by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc.

Mending Children’s Broken Hearts is a collection of the thoughts and experiences of Grace S. Wolff, a respected innovative pediatric cardiologist. The subject matter is daunting-Grace devoted her career to the care of severely ill children. Yet Grace’s stories are shot through with an almost miraculous compassion. She trusted, and she teaches the reader to trust, that there is a thread of hope and wonder even in the worst misfortune.

The book stands as a tribute to Grace, to preserve and share her conviction that patient care should be built from the recognition of each patient as an individual human being. It should be useful to patients, medical professionals, and caregivers, as a source of solace and wisdom.

About the Author
Armando I. Perez, Ph.D., husband of the late Grace S. Wolff, M.D., was born in Havana, Cuba. Soon after the Revolution, he immigrated with his family to Spain and from there to the United States. In his career he was an environmental engineer and urban planner, and served in numerous societies and committees-most notably as Chair of the Urban Planning and Development Division of the American Society of Civil Engineers, from which he received the Harland Bartholomew National Urban Planning Award. Before he retired, he was a vice president with the international consulting firm CDM Smith Inc.

Dr. Perez spends his retirement playing the alto saxophone, learning French and Italian, and participating in book clubs and church activities. He divides the year between his home in Coral Gables, Florida, and his vacation cabin in the Adirondacks of New York. Perhaps the greatest challenge of his life was to provide care for his beloved Grace when she contracted ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Grace fought the disease as forcefully as she had toiled on behalf of her patients, but she succumbed in July 2015. He wrote this book in her honor.

Mending Children’s Broken Hearts is a 134-page paperback with a retail price of $28.00. The ISBN is 978-1-4809-4345-2. It was published by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Shop Insurance Canada Names Canada’s The Top 10 Most Popular New Cars & Their Auto Insurance Premiums

Shop Insurance Canada (ShopInsuranceCanada.ca) has published a new study that shows the most purchased new cars in Canada through 2016 and 2017. The online insurance quote provider has also compiled data on how much a premium would be for the top 10 new cars.

Over a two-year period, Shop Insurance Canada studied data from quotes made through its online quote engine. The company allows customers to check auto insurance quotes from over 30 of Canada’s leading insurance carriers, offering consumers tools to see the best deals within a minute.

For its study, the company looked at 30,000 quotes over 2016 and 2017, with the majority of the quotes coming from the Greater Toronto Area. The company shows that Japanese automaker Honda is the best-selling amongst Canadians looking for a new car. Specifically, the Honda Civic is the best-selling vehicle, while the Honda CR-V came in second.

The theme of Shop Insurance Canada’s study is that consumers prefer Japanese over European or American cars. Low cost of vehicle purchase is likely the core reason why cars from Japan are popular. Seven of the top 10 vehicles are from Japanese manufacturers, while three are from South Korean company Hyundai.

Results of the two-year study show the following cars are most popular in Canada:
HONDA CIVIC
HONDA CR-V
MAZDA MAZDA3
TOYOTA RAV4
HYUNDAI ELANTRA
TOYOTA COROLLA
HYUNDAI SANTA
HONDA ACCORD
HYUNDAI TUCSON
SUBARU IMPREZA

Customers coming to Shop Insurance Canada are looking for the most affordable auto insurance possible. As part of its study, the company looked at the cost of insuring the vehicles in the Top 10 list, taking into account the lowest quoted premium and the highest quoted premium. See Figure 1 for detail.

Over the 30,000 quotes studied, Shop Insurance Canada found most were from the Greater Toronto Area in Ontario. Interestingly, some of the quoted premiums are significantly above even the Ontario auto insurance average. The province is the most expensive car insurance market in Canada with an average premium of $1400.

However, Shop Insurance Canada points out that the high and low premiums depend on other factors beyond the vehicle:

“Insurance companies look beyond a vehicle when assessing coverage. For example, a company will base a premium on information such as where a customer lives, the specific trim level of the vehicle, driving history, and other factors. We found some of Canada’s most popular cars had high and low premiums below the Ontario average over the 30,000 studied quotes. The Hyundai Tucson, for example. This is likely because that vehicle is favored by drivers with a good history who live in favorable locations for insurers.

Many of the high premium rates will not relate to normal customers. Some quotes run into multiple thousands of dollars, pointing towards the customer probably having issues on their driving record.”

About Shop Insurance Canada

The online quoting tool uses an engine that is easy to use and accurate enough to deliver the best auto insurance quotes from over 25 of Canada’s leading providers. IT Pro Mean Salary over $90,000 according to Janco

Park City – UT – www.e-janco.com – Janco’s has just released it’s 2018 IT Salary Survey (https://www.e-janco.com/salary.htm) and CIO Management Toolkit (https://www.e-janco.com/CIO_Management_Toolkit.html). At the same time, Janco has completed its analysis of the latest BLS data.

IT salaries on a year-to-year comparison have risen 3.5%. The median salary (for the positions surveyed) has gone from $82,072 to $90,115. Janco forecasts that on average approximately 7,000 new IT jobs will be created each month in 2018 resulting in 84,000 new domestic IT jobs. The CEO of Janco Associates, Inc., Mr. M. Victor Janulaitis said, “The recent tax legislation and reduction in regulations has created a positive outlook for job growth in general and Information Technology in particular. If jobs will be brought back to the US, a re-vamped immigrations is legislated, and infrastructure spending increased that should result in a significantly improved economic picture.” He added. “With the all of this, there will be a greater need for US-based IT resources. IT hiring and salaries will be up.”

All of that comes at a time the labor statistics from the BLS show an economy that has over 96.2million individuals not even in the labor force with an unemployment rate that is 4.1%. Those 96.2 million people are a resource to provide the capacity for growth.

Janco interviewed over 117 CIOs in the last quarter as part of it’s 2018 IT Salary Survey process ( https://www.e-janco.com/salary.htm ). Janco’s CEO said, “CIOs interviewed after the passage of the recent tax legislation are optimistic that there will be more incentives for increased IT spending and hiring. ” He added, “SMBs are actively looking for experienced managers who will be able to manage the increased technology initiatives that they feel will be stated in the next two quarters.”

The CEO added, “In reviewing the last 24 months of data on new IT job creation, it is very clear that there has been a downward bias in the number of new jobs created.” He added, “In contrast from recent interviews with 86 CIOs and CFOs we found that they have budgeted for more growth in 2018. Most of the C-level executives interviewed are comfortable with the overall direction of the economy and prospects for new IT jobs. This also was reflected in their planning for greater hardware/software acquisitions and major application development and implementation. Many of these executives feel they will have to come back and get more monies in the third and fourth quarters.”

The CEO also said, “Even before the recent tax bill, many CFOs were not adverse to incremental spending for IT related activities that have operational support and have a good ROI.”

2018 IT Salary Survey

Major findings of the 2018 IT Salary Survey are: 1) Over the long-term compensation for IT executives have fared better in large companies than mid-sized companies. 2) The greatest increases have been at the middle manager levels in mid-sized companies with an increase of 4.45% – most of which can be attributed to performance bonuses and the hiring of significantly more qualified individuals earlier. 3) In the last two quarters of 2017, middle management positions in IT organizations of SMB’s had the greatest demand for new hires. Companies were gearing up their internal US-based IT organizations pushing IT salaries up by 4.45% (from $83,805 2017 to $87,352 at the start of 2018). 4) IT compensation for all IT Professionals increased by 3.5%. 5) The IT job market is poised for expansion. We predict that the IT job market will grow by 84,000 net new jobs. 6) Median CIO tenure has risen by a month to 4 years and 7 months as fewer CIOs moved on to new positions. In addition, retirements of baby boomers seem to continue at the same rate as the prior year. 7) Large organizations are planning to beef up their middle management as those enterprises focus on Big Data, Blockchain and Smartphone and tablet connectivity. In addition, many CIOs in large enterprises are now getting closer to retirement. Succession planning and promotion of Millennials into those roles is becoming a priority. 8)Positions in highest demand are associated with security, training, large data center management, big data, distributed/mobile system project management, and quality control. and 9) Onshore outsourcing and H-1B visa jobs have peaked. The America first campaign has resulted in more infrastructure functions being moved in-house.

New Addiction Treatment Reviews Directory Gives Unbiased Recommendations to Clients and Their Families

Los Angeles, CA, January 8, 2018 – The growing impact of the opioid epidemic in the United States has lead the team at Recommended Rehabs to create an unbiased addiction treatment reviews site. Recommended Rehabs aims to connect those seeking treatment with the largest directory of US-based addiction treatment facilities yet compiled.

Recommended Rehabs leverages an exclusive listing model. Only facilities holding an aggregated rating of 3.5 or greater across Google and Yelp are considered for inclusion in the directory. This information combined with alumni and past client reviews collected on the platform determine the overall rating.

Within the portal, individuals seeking treatment can compare up to five rehab facilities side-by-side and filter by addiction type, payment type, location, and much more to find the best fit for their recovery needs.

The directory provides quick and easy results that are public and accessible to all visitors. Recommended Rehabs does not require any personal information to view search results. It is also free for addiction treatment centers to apply for inclusion in the directory as long as their reputation meets the directory’s criteria.

“During one of the most demanding times in a person’s life, the last thing they or their family and friends need is a challenge to find reliable help,” says Bernard May, founder of Recommended Rehabs. “Our goal is to help individuals and rehabs alike connect in a simple and streamlined manner.” Having worked within and around the addiction treatment industry for years, May has seen firsthand the hoops that other directories make their visitors jump through before they can even access the name of a qualified facility. May believed that there was a better solution.

The directory will be reaching out to qualified addiction treatment centers early this year, starting January 2018. If you would like to get involved and expedite your facility listing, you can claim your listing now. If your facility is not yet listed, your team can reach out to Recommended Rehabs directly to request a review.

For more information, you can visit www.RecommendedRehabs.com

AFuzion Releases New Free DO-160 Avionics Testing Technical Whitepaper, Also Free DO-254 / DO-160 Training Webinar – Register Here

Do you know DO-160? Here’s a quick summary; simply download AFuzion’s free technical DO-160 paper for details.

DO-160, “Environmental Conditions and Test Procedures for Airborne Equipment”, applies to virtually all commercial avionics systems and many other forms of airborne equipment. In the case of DO-160, the title is quite revealing, as DO-160:
◦Pertains to environmental testing, not logic execution or developmental processes
◦Provides explicit, independent test criteria which must be attained to achieve equipment certification
◦Applies to airborne equipment and expected worst-case environmental conditions which could potentially be encountered during aircraft operations

Essentially, DO-160 mandates tests which prove the equipment will continue to operate as desired in worst-case environmental conditions which could potentially occur in an aircraft. The purpose of which is safety, whereas commercial aspects are not important to DO-160 per se. Some people fondly call DO-160 the “Shake And Bake” test regimen, because early DO-160 testing was based upon subjecting the hardware to extreme vibration and temperature conditions. But DO-160 has always been more than “shake and bake” and the most recent versions introduce many additional forms of testing including pressure, salt, water, RF, magnetism, lightning, and many more environmental conditions.

Before proceeding further, please ponder a little quiz …
◦T / F: DO-160 applies solely to electronic hardware.
◦T / F: DO-160 can be used to measure service life and MBTF.
◦T / F: DO-160 testing is typically performed simultaneously to performance and functionality testing of the hardware/software logic
◦T / F: DO-160 is predominantly concerned with temperature and vibration testing.
◦T / F: DO-160 is a static document and rarely updated.
◦T / F: DO-160 testing should all be performed on the same piece of equipment.

Do you know all the answers? A couple of them are tricky, but reading AFuzion’s full and free DO-160 paper will help.

DO-160 has a long pedigree. While the first version was released in 1975, it is derived from DO-138 which dates back to 1958, making it one of the older aviation certification documents still applicable today, albeit in its latest revision. Although many of the other “DO” documents pertain to specific aspects of hardware, software, systems, and processes, DO-160 is often considered the grandfather since almost all these systems must ultimately pass DO-160 testing.

DO-160 is essentially equipment environmental testing to Minimal Operational Performance Standards (MOPS), where testing is to be performed in a certified laboratory environment with certified & calibrated equipment. Such a laboratory environment means the tests are objective, standardized worldwide, and repeatable. Typically these tests are performed at testing centers which are independent of the design, though larger companies may have their own dedicated DO-160 test environments. Non-certified laboratories or equipment are useful ‘engineering tools’ to increase design confidence and decrease actual certified laboratory test time. The successful conclusion of a DO-160 test campaign is an accepted Test Report (desirably, but not necessarily with all ‘pass’). A well-written Test Report is not a trivial task, and in this context would include the certified laboratory(ies) and a list of the test articles, which includes the calibrated test equipment. The DO-160 testing would follow a previously written and customer accepted Test Procedure, being referenced in a Test Plan.

Boca Raton, FL Author Publishes Yoga Book

A Journey in the Heart: Teaching Yoga Deeper, a new book by Christine Apter, PhD, ERYT 500, has been released by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc.

This book is meant to be an organized curriculum that takes a student beyond the foundational philosophy, anatomy, technical aspects, and teaching methodology developed from many advanced yoga teacher training workshops. The basics of yoga teaching with the standards of Yoga Alliance are not covered in this text. It is designed as a manual intended to meet the criteria for 300 hours of knowledge and practice above and beyond what is taught in basic yoga teacher training. A deep desire and enthusiasm for the teaching is perhaps a more important criterion for the aspiration to dive deeper. To be proficient in teaching and practicing, it takes thousands of hours and perhaps decades of committed work.

The art and science of yoga teaching and practice come together with the flexible format surrounding factual structure presented in this book. Rather than an authoritative tool, this manual is fashioned to be a framework for the creative work it takes to teach yoga and practice deeper. The reader is encouraged to build upon the information and inspiration and to be creative and innovative with the material.

About the Author
Christine Apter, PhD, ERYT 500, holds a Master’s degree in biology and a Doctorate in Natural Health. As a Medical Technologist, she developed a deep interest in health and science. Yoga has been part of her life since 1968 and over the years she has studied in many different styles. Deeply indebted to all her teachers, she has found the most comprehensive knowledge in the Anusara style.
Christine’s current positions include Adjunct Professor of Microbiology at Broward College, Coconut Creek, Florida, and a yoga instructor at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, Florida. She also serves as a staff member of Yoga Teacher Training at the Yoga Center in Deerfield Beach, Florida, and heads the advanced Yoga Teacher Training.

Additionally, Christine’s love of nature and art compel her to create as a sculptor in stone and watercolor. Some of her artistic expression can be found in the pages of this book. Her philosophy is that our purpose on this earth is to realize our true Divine nature.

A Journey in the Heart: Teaching Yoga Deeper is a 248-page paperback with a retail price of $72.00. The ISBN is 978-1-4809-4214-1.
