Federal Guidelines for Cleanrooms Provide an Effective Air Filtration Strategy

Riverdale, NJ, 11/15/2016 /SubmitPressRelease123/

Cleanrooms were invented to provide a sterile environment in which high tech products are manufactured or tested, but without an effective air filtration system, contaminants can wreak havoc at these facilities.

Federal cleanroom contamination standards point to the need for air filtration systems that can eliminate particulates reports Air Filtration Company Camfil

In fact, the sterility of cleanrooms is vital toward maintaining the integrity of any scientific research.

That’s because a cleanroom that is contaminated by particulates and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), cannot present research as being valid.

A review of what these facilities are, and the federal standards regarding the permissible amount of contamination, is vital in understanding how cleanrooms can be compromised by poor air quality, and how air filtration provides a solution.

Purpose of a Cleanroom

Cleanrooms are built in different sizes and configurations depending on the research that will be conducted.

They are often found in industries such as pharmaceuticals, biotech, semiconductor manufacturing, aerospace and optics.

The main purpose of a cleanroom is to have a confined space where air quality is as good as possible, which includes controlling variables such as humidity, temperature and air pressure.

One of the primary ways to maintain optimal air quality in a cleanroom is to establish entrance and exit protocols that help control the amount of contamination in the cleanroom.

For example, workers in these facilities are often asked to enter through special openings, and must wear protective clothing that prevents skin-borne contaminants from compromising the air quality in the cleanroom.

Some cleanrooms that are used for live-culture research require personnel to wear breathing masks and layered protective suits to ensure that no contaminants can mix with the molecules involved in the research.

This would be applicable to cleanrooms that are involved in genetic testing, as an example.

Cleanroom Federal Classifications

The U.S. government has established federal standards to classify cleanrooms.

Initially, the government used Federal Standard 209E, but ISO 14644-1, an international standard, replaced that standard.

These guidelines are based on the number of particles in the air that are equal to or greater than the baseline of 0.5 micron in one cubic meter of air.

In the ISO standard, the most sterile cleanroom is designated as a class 1, and the least sterile cleanroom is designated as a class 9.

For example, a cleanroom with 35,200,000 particles per cubic meter would be receive a class 9 designation.

Furthermore, cleanroom facility operators are required to conduct particle count tests, air pressure differenential tests and airflow tests every 12 months.

Optional testing includes installed filter leakage tests and containment leakage tests every 24 months.

Importance of Air-Change Rate

One of the most important factors affecting air quality in a cleanroom is the air-change rate (ACR).

The ACR is the number of times in a 60-minute period that filtered air is recirculated within the cleanroom.

Cleanroom ACR is dependent on factors such as size and usage, so it can range from 10 to 600 times in a 60-minute period.

Air Filtration Strategy

It’s obvious that a cleanroom must remain as free of contaminants as possible to maintain research integrity.

Operators of these facilities must understand the importance of filtered air that flows from the cleanest areas of a cleanroom to the least clean areas, to increase the elimination of all contaminants.

In addition, airflow uniformity is vital in cleaning pockets of air where particulates may have accumulated in greater amounts.

Airflow uniformity refers to the consistent flow of filtered air in one direction, typically in a vertical flow.

Camfil Offers Effective Air Filtration Solutions

Grilling Hamburgers in Fast Food Restaurants – Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)

Riverdale, NJ, 11/15/2016 /SubmitPressRelease123/

Recent studies related to fast food cooking have found that a number of contaminants are released into the air that could compromise the health of both employees and customers, once again showing how an effective air filtration system is necessary for good health.

Fast food restaurants serve an obvious purpose: delivering food at a rapid pace that customers can consume quickly and be on their way.

But what many fast food lovers don’t ever consider is the price of cooking with such speed is often paid by the release of contaminants that can not only significantly lower the air quality, but also cause breathing illnesses.

Contaminants Created by High-Heat Cooking

Hamburgers are one of the most common and popular fast food items throughout the world. For fast food restaurant owners, burger patties are inexpensive and cook in a very short period of time, especially when placed on a super-hot griddle.

And yet a recent study in Hong Kong revealed that grilling just four hamburgers in a fast food restaurant, releases the same amount of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as is released from a car driven for 1,000 miles.

That’s a troubling statistic to ponder, the fact that just four small hamburgers that are grilled can emit that amount of VOCs into the air.

And that’s not even taking into account the contaminants released by fine-dining restaurants, of which there are more than 9,000 in Hong Kong alone.

These contaminants are created when elements such as oils and fats cooked at extreme high temperatures form hydrocarbons that are harmful once released into the air.

Another air quality study in New Jersey found that 16,000 restaurants are responsible for releasing as much as 2,226 tons of particulates into the air.

This number was found to exceed the amount of particulates released by all the diesel vehicles in the state, which would include commercial vehicles such as delivery trucks, buses, dump trucks and waste disposal trucks.

These heavy commercial vehicles released 1,329 tons of particulates into the air every year.

Efforts to Combat Fast Food and Restaurant Air Pollution

The health implications for fast food cooking emissions are not just troubling for those who work in these places, but for those who visit these facilities to enjoy a meal.

Many fast food restaurants are enclosed, which means that a greater amount of particulates and VOCs remain trapped indoors.

That also means that customers are inhaling these contaminants each time they stop in for lunch or dinner, and for millions of people, fast food is a daily ritual.

So what’s to be done?

Air filtration is obviously the first answer, and more fast food restaurants are beginning to incorporate an air filtration strategy as part of their operating ethos.

And in states such as California, that may soon not just be an option.

Restaurants in the Bay Area which utilize commercial grills for cooking, will soon have to purchase catalytic converters that can help lower the amount of pollutants indoors.

Emission control has become one of the new buzzwords in many fast food restaurants, as increased awareness of air quality is forcing the owners of these facilities to provide a healthy environment for customers to come and enjoy their meals.

Camfil Air Filtration Offers Clean Air Solutions

As part of its governing principle of providing clean air as a human right, Camfil air filtration company offers the most advanced air filtration systems in the world. For more than 50 years, Camfil has built its reputation on designing state-of-the-art filters that can eliminate the tiniest particulates, and cleanse the air of noxious odors. New York Bicycle Accident Lawyer Explains Steps to Take after a Bicycle Accident

New York City, NY, 11/15/2016 /SubmitPressRelease123/

According to a study published by the American Medical Association, injuries among cyclists have jumped sharply, especially among people over age 45. Between 1998 and 2013, bicycle injuries increased by 28 percent, and hospitalizations for bicycle accident injuries rose by a staggering 120 percent.

Most people don’t think “catastrophic injury” when they think of a bicycle accident. However, bicycle accidents involving cars and trucks more often than not lead to devastating injuries. When you consider that the average car weighs in at around 4,000 pounds, it’s easy to understand why these accidents are often catastrophic. If you have been injured in a bicycle accident in New York City or the surrounding areas, speak to a bicycle accident lawyer right away.

What to Do after a Bicycle Crash

The reality is that riding a bike means sharing the road with motor vehicles. With smartphone use continuing to rise, drivers are more distracted than ever before. Every time you get on your bike, you risk being involved in a crash. Knowing what to do after a collision can help you preserve your important legal rights.

Call the Police. Always report the accident, even if the driver speeds away from the scene. In a high-traffic area like New York City, there is a good chance the police will track down the motorist. You should also get a police report, as your insurance company will probably require one.

Take Photos. This is where your smartphone can be an invaluable asset. Use your phone to take photos of the scene, your bicycle, and your injuries. Obviously, you should only take pictures if your injuries permit it. If you are too hurt to take photos without further injuring yourself, ask someone else to take them, or wait until you get to the hospital to begin documenting your injuries.

Get Medical Help. You should always see a doctor after a bicycle crash, even if you assume you are uninjured. The reason is that some injuries aren’t immediately obvious. It may take a few hours or even days for aches and pains to really kick into high gear. Don’t compromise your health by delaying a trip to the doctor’s office.

Don’t Make Statements about Fault. Leave speculation about fault to the police and the accident investigators. If you inadvertently admit fault to the police or an insurance company representative, you could accidentally hurt your case.

Will Stoned Driving Increase Asks Philadelphia Car Accident Lawyer Rand Spear?

Philadelphia, PA, USA, 11/15/2016 /SubmitPressRelease123/

It wasn’t just Republicans who won big in this month’s election. Ballot measures nationwide concerning the recreational and medical use of marijuana passed in most states. As the use of marijuana becomes increasingly legal it raises the possibility of more stoned drivers endangering others on our roadways says Philadelphia car accident lawyer Rand Spear.

This month there were measures in five states proposing legalizing the recreational use of marijuana: Arizona, California, Maine, Massachusetts and Nevada. It was turned down in Arizona, the vote in Maine is still too close to call and the measures passed in the other three states. Ballot measures concerning the medical use of marijuana were voted on in Arkansas, Florida, Montana and North Dakota. They were all approved. New Jersey allows for medical use of marijuana. It’s not legal to use in Pennsylvania.

Recreational use of marijuana has been legal in Colorado since 2012. A year later state officials didn’t have a good idea on its impact on traffic accidents because of how accident records are kept, according to the Denver Post. If someone involved in an accident is found to have been impaired by marijuana use and is arrested he or she faces a driving under the influence charge which is the same as if the person were intoxicated by alcohol. The state didn’t maintain separate records for those driving while stoned.

A study published in 2014 by researchers at Columbia University found that stoned driving probably increased across the country. Researchers used data from the federal government to find the percentage of drivers killed in car accidents who tested positive for marijuana nearly tripled between 1999 and 2010.

That could be evidence of wider marijuana use by the general public as time has passed but the tests used could only show marijuana use before the driver died not whether the driver was impaired by marijuana at the time of death.

A report by the American Auto Association published earlier this year found the percentage of drivers who had marijuana’s active ingredient THC in their systems at the time of fatal accidents in Washington State more than doubled between 2013 and 2014, according to NBC. The state legalized marijuana use in 2012.

The study looked at vehicle crashes where at least one driver tested positive for THC. They found 40 fatalities in 2010 and 85 in 2014. Since not all drivers involved in fatal accidents were tested for THC the number could be higher. The test used could only indicate past marijuana use not impairment at the time of the accident.

Whether legal or not marijuana use prior to driving can be deadly. It can slow a driver’s reaction time, impair judgment of time and distance and decrease coordination according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Stoned drivers tend to weave in and out of traffic lanes and have altered attention to the road. If alcohol is also consumed while smoking marijuana drivers are more impaired with more lane weaving likely to take place.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a vehicle accident while in a vehicle or as a pedestrian due to a driver impaired by drug or alcohol use in Pennsylvania or New Jersey, contact Philadelphia car accident lawyer Rand Spear at 888-373-4LAW today so you can set up a free consultation to discuss the accident, how the law may apply in your situation and what you should do next to protect your rights to compensation for your injuries.

New York Plane Crash Lawyer Discusses Flight Records After Crash

New York City, NY, 11/14/2016 /SubmitPressRelease123/

When a plane crash occurs, one of the most important tools investigators use to determine the cause of the crash are the flight records and records put together immediately following the accident. Investigators have the difficult job of looking at all of the evidence to determine exactly what caused the crash to happen. They want to give families closure, as well as identify problems that could cause future accidents.

In one case out of the Cleveland area, their efforts may have been thwarted by a charter jet company accused of destroyed or altering records related to a fatal crash in 2015.

If you have been injured in any kind of airline accident, or you have lost a loved one in an airline crash, speak to a airline accident lawyer as soon as possible.

Former Employee Says Charter Company Lied

As reported by Cleveland.com, a former employee of a charter jet company based in Florida claims he was fired after he refused to lie about the details surrounding a fatal accident that claimed nine lives.

It’s important to note that the court has not determined if the employee’s allegations are accurate. At this stage, the facts are still uncertain, however, the allegations raise serious concerns.

In depositions, the employee said the company falsified repair and maintenance documents, claiming they made repairs when they actually did not. He also stated that the company recorded inaccurate weights-and-balances measurements for the plane involved in the fatal accident.

Perhaps most disturbing of all, the ex-employee alleges the pilots themselves worried they were unqualified to fly passengers, with one pilot claiming, “we’re going to get ourselves killed.”

The former employee is a veteran pilot with more than 20,000 flight hours under his belt. He claims the pilot who crashed the aircraft had already exceeded his allowed on-duty hours when he piloted the three-day trip scheduled to have five stops.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which investigates aircraft accidents, has stated that the plane was 600 pounds overweight at the time of the crash. The agency also said that the pilot and co-pilot had previously been fired from other flying jobs for poor performance and failure to complete required training.

Data Center Air Filtration – Pollution Increases Data Centers’ Operating Costs

Riverdale, NJ, 11/14/2016 /SubmitPressRelease123/

With worsening air pollution throughout the world, many data centers in urban areas are experiencing an increase in mechanical failures due to poor air quality, showcasing the need for an effective air filtration system.

Air pollution has become a major problem in many industrialized countries, including world cities such as Beijing, Los Angeles, Tokyo and New York, just to name a few.

These cities have struggled with pollution caused by traffic congestion, manufacturing and other processes that emit contaminants into the air.

And many of these cities feature massive data centers with large networked computers that store a company’s IT systems and equipment, vital to daily operations.

But as air pollution gets worse, the quality of air inside a data center is compromised, and that can have an adverse effect on a company’s bottom line in several ways.

Corrosive Effect of Contaminants

To remain operational, data centers must be cooled to a specific temperature, and the physical equipment must be protected from the elements to avoid costly breakdowns.

The most pressing threat to the sustainability of a data center is the corrosion of electronic  components, which can directly lead to a mechanical or system failure.

Pollutants that are drawn in from the outside through ventilation systems and through doorways that open when employees enter or depart the facility typically cause this corrosion.

Although a variety of noxious gases can lead to corrosion, the most common contaminants that infiltrate a data center are sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide and particulate matter, also known as PM.

In cities such as Beijing, the exhaust from cars, coal power plant emissions, and fires creates particulate matter, which all contribute toward the thick haze that often clogs the Chinese capital.

Heavy pollution in Beijing has led to illnesses such as asthma, bronchitis and other respiratory ailments that is burdening the health care system.

And these contaminants can also break down computer circuitry as well as metal, and they can also cause malfunctions in the flow of electricity, which can lead to blackouts, or burn out the electronic componets in a data center due to electricity flowing through the wrong circuit.

One little-known fact about air pollution is that it accelerates the accumulation of salt in the air.

Salt is a main generator of corrosion, which is why poor outside air quality can cause problems in the deterioration of electronic components in data centers.

Common Data Center Malfunctions Due to Contaminants

Because data centers are built to rely on components working together at the same time, any disruption of one function will have negative consequences on the entire system.

One of the biggest problems with poor air quality in data centers is the fact that indoor pollutants can compromise the cooling system. This either means that the cooling system breaks down, or that more power is required to generate cooling air to keep the components funtioning.

Furthermore, the salt and sulfur inside these data centers can corrode key electrical components and that can cause electrical shortages, discharges and physical deterioration of equipment.

Air Filtration Is a Must

Any company that owns a data center must act preemptively to negate the effects of poor indoor air quality with an effective air filtration system.

Systems that provide real-time monitoring are often recommended to ensure that the air filtration devices are working at optimal efficiency. Filters can clean the air inside data centers, and also pressurize the air to block external pollutants from entering the facility.

Camfil Offers Time-Tested Solutions

As an industry leader for more than 50 years, Camfil offers data center air filtration systems that are constantly being upgraded to meet the changing needs of its consumers. Camfil understands that the biggest health challenge of the new millennium is the lack of clean air throughout the world, especially in underdeveloped nations.

That’s why Camfil is committed to offering advanced air filtration systems that are affordable, because clean air should be a human right. More information http://www.camfil.us/Products/

Texas Criminal Defense Lawyer – Is the Cash Bail System Unfair?

Dallas, 11/14/2016 /SubmitPressRelease123/

Most people have a general idea of what bail is and how the cash bail system works. In some criminal cases, the judge may set a bail amount, which means the accused must put up a certain amount of money before he or she is released from jail. If the accused appears at the next court hearing as promised, the bail money is returned.

Because many people don’t have access to enough money to post bail on their own, they must use the services of a bail bondsman. A bail bondsman acts like a short-term loan lender in that they give the accused the money they need up front, but they keep a percentage once the accused has fulfilled their obligations to the court.

Recently, the U.S. Justice Department has weighed in on a case pending in Georgia, in which a criminal defendant has argued that the cash bail system is unconstitutional because it unfairly punishes minorities and the financially disadvantaged.

If you have been charged with any type of federal crime, it’s important to speak to a Texas criminal defense lawyer right away.

Challenges to the Cash Bail System

In the Georgia case in question, a 54-year-old man with a mental illness was arrested for a suspicion of public intoxication when police spotted him walking down the road. The court set his bail at $160. When he couldn’t pay, he was forced to remain in jail for a week.

A civil rights law firm stepped in and filed a lawsuit on the man’s behalf, claiming the cash bail system in the city is unconstitutional. The case is now pending in a federal appeals court, and the U.S. Justice Department has lent its support to the man’s position. According to an NBC News report, there are several similar lawsuits pending across the country.

Research published in 2016 by the University of Pennsylvania Law School says that cash bail systems often punish innocent people by keeping them incarcerated while they await a hearing. Researchers also say that bail can create a domino effect of legal problems for indigent defendants, as they may be more inclined to plead guilty to a crime they didn’t commit, simply so they can obtain an earlier release and get back to work for their family obligations. A White House report says that the number of un-convicted jail inmates rose by 59 percent between 1996 and 2014.

Discuss Your Case with a Texas Criminal Defense Lawyer

If you have been charged with a criminal offense, and you believe the bail set in your case was unfair or discriminatory, it’s important to call a Texas criminal defense lawyer right away. At Broden & Mickelsen, we are Board Certified in Criminal Law and Criminal Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Heroes For Children Welcomes Julie Malin As South Texas Area Director

Dallas, 11/14/2016 /SubmitPressRelease123/

Heroes for Children – a unique nonprofit that provides financial and social assistance to families with a child battling cancer – is pleased to announce the addition of Julie Malin to the South Texas development team, which aims to provide assistance to families in the southern region of the state, serving families in Austin, Corpus Christi, Houston and San Antonio.

“At Heroes for Children, we believe that no family with a child battling cancer should fight alone,” says Larissa Linton, cofounder and executive director of Heroes for Children. “The addition of Julie Malin to our South Texas development team will allow us to expand our vision and better serve the families of the southern part of Texas. The role of South Texas Area Director is essential to achieving this endeavor, and we are confident that Julie will help us accomplish our vision while growing and expanding our footprint in Texas.”

With more than 17 years of service in the nonprofit sector, Julie has served organizations in the Houston area and beyond, including Jewish National Fund, Jewish Community Center of Houston and David Posnack Jewish Community Center.

“As a child, I spent a lot of time in the hospital,” Julie says. “Now, as an adult, it is an honor to join Heroes for Children as they take care of the little things that we often take for granted like buying groceries, paying utility bills or enjoying a meal with your family. For families with children battling cancer, these little things quickly become challenges – as they focus their attention and energy on caring for their child. I look forward to helping Heroes for Children serve the South Texas region to make their lives a little brighter.”

Heroes for Children provides financial and social assistance to families from across the state of Texas who are battling childhood cancer. Financial services include paying rent and mortgages, transportation costs to and from treatment, costs of hospital visits and, in some cases, funeral expenses. In addition, laptops are purchased for older children and teens to keep them entertained and in contact with the outside world during isolation periods.

Heroes for Children’s social assistance programs help provide moments of normalcy and a break for the entire family – programs like the Valentine’s Day candlelight dinner, which offers parents a special date night while their children are cared for by trained childcare professionals. Additionally, Holiday Heroes ensures the holiday wishes of families battling childhood cancer are fulfilled. Families selected by social workers at each of the major hospitals across the state that partner with Heroes for Children are adopted by community members, organization supporters and businesses – who shop, wrap and donate gifts for the entire family.

Since its inception, Heroes for Children has provided more than 4,500 families with over $5.5 million dollars in assistance. Funding for the organization stems from generous donors, community partnerships and participants of the annual fundraising events including:

·       Heroes and Handbags – luxury handbag auction and luncheon, hosted each spring in Dallas and Houston

·       Golf tournament every spring or summer in Dallas and Houston

·       Heart of Gold 5K and Fun Run held in the Dallas area each September in honor of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

·       Hold’em for Heroes poker tournament played each fall in Austin, Dallas and Houston
