Boating Industry Floats Up with Lower Gas Prices

Dallas, 02/02/2016 /SubmitPressRelease123/

The Great Recession and high oil prices hit the boat industry hard, knocking down sales. Now, with the cost of a gallon of gas cheaper than a gallon of milk, the boating industry is experiencing dynamic growth. North Texas is no exception, where record crowds are expected at Market Hall this weekend as the DFW Boat Expo opens.

“Extra money in boater’s pockets is good for business,” says Bron Beal, director of the DFW Boat Expo. “Lower gas prices have a direct impact on habits and the recreational choices people make. People usually have a certain amount of money budgeted for boating season. If lower gas prices afford them more time on the lake on that same budget, everyone wins.”

Tyler Choyke, General Manager of Lewisville’s Marine Max says, “The enthusiasm of our sales team for this Boat Show is overwhelming. In the past year, we have seen sales increase by 25% and expect 2016 to be no different. When the cost to fill a boat’s gas tank is fraction of what it was a few short years ago, you see more and more boaters on the water and those enthusiasts are also coming to us to see if it’s a good time to upgrade their boats.”

Lower gas prices are beneficial to more than just the recreational boater – it also has a direct impact on job creation and growth within the industry. National Marine Manufacturers Association President Thom Dammrich said in a statement, “Sales are up in most segments, and with larger boats on the move, it’s helping to lift the industry and support thousands of marine industry jobs nationwide – numerous people are employed when just one large boat or yacht is built, given how precise and vast these craft are, so when multiple boats are sold you can imagine the jobs this sustains.”

DFW Winter Boat Expo at Dallas Market Hall will have more than 650 all new 2016 boat and watercraft models on display and available for purchase from more than 20 North Texas boat dealers. The boat expo is produced by the United Boat Dealers of North Texas.
