Complete Local Specialty Care (CLSC) was founded in 1989 by Jean-Claude Bourque, M.D. and his daughter Chantal Bourque-Bray, M.H.S.A. Dr. Bourque has been serving patients in South Florida for over thirty years. They have three state of the art facilities located in Hallandale, Boca Raton and Coconut Creek which serve Broward and Palm Beach counties in South Florida. The group of clinic’s physicians and nurse practitioners offer patients a full range of healthcare services.

CLSC have published a new report on the causes, symptoms, types and treatments of hypertension. Hypertension is high blood pressure and is a condition that has many causes. The symptoms of hypertension can include headaches, shortness of breath, nose bleeds, flushing, dizziness, chest pain, visual changes and blood in the urine.

There are two types of hypertension and they both have different causes. Primary hypertension developed over time with no immediately identifiable cause. The long term causes of this type of high blood pressure may be due to another body part malfunctioning and throwing blood pressure out of sync or may be due to unhealthy lifestyle choices such as lack of physical activity and poor diet.

Secondary hypertension occurs rapidly and more severely and can be cause by a number of health conditions. These include kidney disease, obstructive sleep apnea, congenital heart defects, medication side effects, misuse of alcohol and illegal drugs, thyroid problems, adrenal gland problems and certain endocrine tumors.

Family physicians and internists are highly skilled in identifying and treating hypertension with different medications. Recommending the correct medications to take depends on how high the patient blood pressure is, what’s causing it, how a patient body responds to the drugs and if they have health problems. Treatment for hypertension may include both prescription medication and lifestyle changes.

In order to find the right medication, every patient is different and it could take time to find the drugs and doses that work best. In a few cases, many people may need more than one type of medication to control their high blood pressure. These medications can include beta-blockers, diuretics, ACE inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers, calcium channel blockers and alpha-2 agonists.
