British Man Needs Skin Grafts After E-Cigarette Explosion As U.S. E-Cig Lawsuit Numbers Climb

May 30, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on an explosion of an e-cigarette that left a British man needing skin grafts. The New York Daily News reported in February that a 20-year-old man had been at a shopping mall when his e-cigarette exploded in his pocket. The device burst into flames, setting his leg on fire and leaving him with second and third-degree burns. Doctors told the man that he could have lost his leg had he been wearing jeans instead of sweatpants, the article said.

Several similar incidents have been reported involving e-cigarettes in the U.S. These incidents have occurred in states including Oklahoma, New York, North Carolina, Texas, Florida, Arizona, California, Oregon and Colorado. A similar incident that has recently made headlines involved a Queens woman whose e-cigarette exploded in her jeans pocket while she was parking her car. The explosion tore off a layer of skin on her leg and she now walks with a cane, according to an article by NBC. The woman is being represented by Attorney Marc Freund, who stated that the manufacturers and retailers of e-cigarettes have a responsibility to public safety.

The devices have become increasingly popular since their debut and according to FEMA, about 2.5 million Americans use the devices. Between 2009 and 2014, 25 e-cigarette explosions were reported by mainstream media. The number is expected to be much higher, given the unknown number of incidents that go unreported.

Several victims of the explosions have chosen to take legal action, some calling for a ban on the cigarettes. In an effort to assist those affected by e-cigarette explosions, Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman are currently working to ensure that those individuals who have been injured by the devices are able to explore their legal rights fully. Attorney Marc Freund is currently offering free consultations to anyone who has been injured by the devices. Certain individuals may be entitled to financial compensation.
