British Royal Visitor Calls In To House of Raja’s Store

July 16, 2015 – – House of Raja’s on Fletcher Street has been a stable landmark in Bolton, Lancashire for many decades now. It has quietly supplied fashionwear and accessories to popular ITV evening television soaps, stars of the popular TV series Citizen Khan and MTV reality shows. Yet nothing prepared the staff for their recent impromptu visit from the world’s most famous butler, Paul Burrell. Mr. Burrell called into the store totally unannounced and left staff and customers with mouths agape as he casually walked around browsing the aisles.

“It’s not every day you have someone who’s served the Queen, Prince Charles, Princess Diana and other members of the royal household, walk into the store and browse around,” said Sital Raja, Store General Manager.

Mrs. Raja gave Mr. Burrell a guided tour of the store and his interest was sparked at the bright colours of the saree collections at the back of the store and the abundant selection of spices from around the world. He recalled to the staff with great fondness, Princess Diana’s visit to India and how she treasured her own collection of sarees. Mr. Burrell took a keen interest in the in-store temple and even left behind a small gift to bless the store and its customers with happiness.

“He sat and ate lunch here at the in-store deli,” added Mrs. Raja

“And we chatted for over an hour about Lancashire and the history. He’s really into history and culture and paints a lot of the sights that he’s seen.”

Mr. Burrell had been in Bolton for the day visiting Bolton School on Chorley New Road to give a talk to Senior and Junior boys, imparting a few words of personal wisdom about their development based on his twenty years working with the world’s most famous family. Paul has visited Lancashire on previous occasions but never been to Bolton. He grew up in a small Derbyshire mining village where most of the boys were expected to work down in the mines. Whilst eating samosas in the House of Raja’s, Burrell mused with Mrs. Raja about all the great opportunities open to children in the world today. He liked how integrated society had become and accepting and tolerant of other peoples beliefs.

Sital Raja, herself is no stranger to royal protocol having being awarded a MBE for services to tourism in Bolton in 2002. Mr. Burrell owns florists in Farndon, Cheshire and regularly commutes between his shop and his home in Florida.
