As a spokesperson for Donovan’s new line of footwear noted, fashion is more than just a suitable outfit and name brands; it’s a chance to show one’s artistry and imagination.

“Chris Donovan is a new footwear designer hoping to debut his own statement pieces. Using inspiration from architecture, nature, or even items from the salvage yard, Donovan creates beautiful and artistic shoes,” the spokesperson said, adding that the designs feature stunning geometric structures and unexpected materials, such as shells, cogs, and hip replacement prosthetics.

“These sculptural shoes are worthy of a place in many museums of modern art.”

Donovan started his journey in his 50’s after being diagnosed with prostate cancer, the spokesperson said.

He used this brush with mortality as an inspiration to pursue the long held dream of becoming a footwear designer. The designer attended Polimoda fashion school and really found his voice in the fashion world.

His footwear has been featured on Project Runway, Yahoo!, and in an AARP documentary, among other media outlets. Now, Donovan is hoping to finally get his shoes into production and introduce the footwear line to the world.

In order to help pay for the start-up costs of having show samples made in Italy and working with a developer to facilitate that, as working with a heel factory to engineer and create molds for the heels and other costs, Donovan recently launched a fundraiser on Indiegogo. He hopes to raise $30,000 through crowdfunding to help fulfill his dream of launching his own shoe wear collection.

“I’m hoping that this path I’ve chosen will inspire others to follow their passions,” Donovan said.

“I’m also hoping as an outsider in the world of fashion I will bring a fresh voice. I want this company to always see things in a non-traditional way and by doing so influence people to do the same.”
