Christian Women in Media Association Hosts Successful Event to Share Media Strategies With Christian Women

On January 21, 2016, the West Coast/Hollywood chapter of the Christian Women in Media hosted a round table event to inspire women and equip them with the tools to navigate the media world as Christian women.

STUDIO CITY, Calif. — The West Coast/Hollywood chapter of the Christian Women in Media Association (CWIMA) recently hosted their networking and experts roundtable dinner. The event took place on Saturday, January 21, 2016 at Carla’s Café in the CBS Studio Center in Studio City, California.

The event was a round table format and featured six speakers, each of whom brought a different level of expertise. Attendees of the event were able to interact with the speakers about their topic of focus, and participants were able to choose three sessions to attend throughout the night.

CWIMA West Coast/Hollywood Regional Director Carol Doyel and National Advisory Board Member Reverend Diane Garner hosted the event, and spoke to their hopes and goals for it. According to Doyel, the event was designed to inspire women and equip them to move forward as Christian women in a media world that is not always friendly to them. When asked what she hoped women would take from the event, Doyel said, “My hope is that the women will leave encouraged, having learned something from each of the speakers and sessions they will attend this evening. We’re offering six different topics and speakers to choose from. I also want them to feel like they’ve been able to meet and connect with like-minded women that they can meet with outside of these more structured events. Most of all, our desire is that God uses these events to make a difference in the lives of the women who attend.”

Reverend Garner spoke to the unique nature of the event and said, “Tonight is different because we usually have a single speaker, and we’re going from table to table and listening to media experts in different fields. We think tonight, they’ll come away with a big basket of information.”

The speakers at the event represented all facets of the media, and each spoke on a unique topic. They included:

– Bella Shaw, former CNN reporter and currently a TV host who spoke about producing videos for success
– Suzanne Spurgeon, former CNN vice president and LA bureau chief who spoke about crafting media messages
– Deborah Smith Pegues, Fortune 500 vice president and best-selling author who gave a crash course in becoming an author
– Marion Pyle, media and communications professional who spoke about key PR strategies for the media professional
– Denise Wacker, ordained minister, actress and best-selling author, who spoke about casting visions for 2016
– Dorothy-Inez Del Tufo, speaker, author and make-up artist, who spoke about how to have a professional brand that speaks before you ever say a word
– Caroline Elizabeth Grace Goodwin, singer/songwriter, who ushered in praise and worship
