A Cincinnati senior who ran in the Flying Pig Half Marathon last year documented his journey to the finish line in a bid to help encourage others to join in. Ken Geers was inspired by his son’s challenge to live a healthier life, and has filmed his training and preparation and launched the videos on YouTube so people could follow his footsteps all the way to the finish line.

May 1, 2016 sees the start of the eighteenth Flying Pig Half Marathon, and anyone can sign up, whether they want to be a runner, a walker, a volunteer or a fan to cheer others along on the day. It always proves a popular event, with over 36,000 people taking part across the weekend, and all finishers earning a Flying Pig medal.

Ken Geers was spurred on to join the race not just by his son, but because of the famous words of C S Lewis, who said: “you are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” His series of videos provides a firsthand direct look at an out-of-shape senior preparing himself for the 13.1 mile route through the hills of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Viewers will experience a four month preparation plan, going right through the cold month of February and up to race day.

Ken fully opens his mind and heart to the trials, tribulations, and fun experiences of the training regime, and in doing so hopes to encourage others to follow in his footsteps. One of the more unique aspects of this video series compared to others available on YouTube is that he covers the physical, mental and spiritual challenges of getting a senior body back into shape. Over 40 such videos have been shot, each of them in a video blog style, making it easy for the viewer to transport themselves into Ken’s shoes as he prepares to take on the challenge.

He has turned to Local Buzz Connect to help spread the word of his videos in an attempt to get others running too. More information can be found at: http://localbuzzconnect.com.
