June 25, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com’s Thomas Moverman recently commented on a development in Colorado where a 29-year-old construction worker died after being struck by a metal gate. Moverman sends his condolences to the family of the fallen victim and emphasizes the necessity of construction safety reform. Moverman notes that without an increase in safety rules and regulations for the construction industry, construction workers are likely to remain among the top at-risk workers in the United States.
According to a local report from K2radio.com, a Colorado man died from the injuries he sustained in a construction accident at Kelly Walsh High School on June 17th. The victim was struck by a metal gate while driving a four wheel Gator, and shortly after was transported to Wyoming Medical Center where he passed away due to his injuries. An investigation is still on-going by local authorities, and OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) officials to determine if the accident was preventable.
OSHA indicates that in 2014, there were 73 fatal injuries to construction workers as a result of being struck by an object, as was the case for the Colorado man. Individuals being struck by objects was the third leading cause of death for construction workers in 2014, and was listed in construction’s ‘Fatal Four.’ The ‘Fatal Four’ are the four leading causes of death to construction workers, and in addition to being struck by objects also includes falls, electrocutions, and being caught in between objects. The ‘Fatal Four’ represented nearly 60 percent of construction worker fatalities in 2014.
