Construction Accident Lawyer Comments On Call For More Safety Standards
May 23, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com’s Thomas Moverman has recently commented on the push to improve safety standards for construction workers in New York. Moverman noted that altered safety standards could potentially lead to improved workplace safety for construction workers.
His opinion is shared by William Gilbane III, head of the New York Office for Gilbane Building Co., which works on sites including Hudson Yards and the expansion of New York-Presbyterian Hospital on the Upper East Side. Gilbane’s company requires that all workers be attached to a safety harness if they are working more than six feet above the ground. Gilbane is now calling on federal regulators to do the same, according to a report by The Real Deal.
The Bureau of Labor statistics indicates that New York saw 86 fatal injuries in 2014 related to construction and maintenance occupations. Twenty-four of those incidents involved contact with objects and equipment and 28 were because of falls, slips, and trips. There are several types of construction accidents that affect workers on the job. Among those are scaffolding accidents, slips, trips and falls, and ladder accidents. Common injuries associated with construction accidents include lacerations, broken or fractured bones, spinal injuries and brain injuries.
