Construction Accident Lawyer Comments On Need For Reevaluation Of Construction Site Protocol
May 24, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com’s Thomas Moverman recently commented on the need for reevaluation of construction safety measures, indicating that the rise in New York City construction deaths should be prompting officials to take a harder look at construction site protocol.
According to Construction Dive, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has started introducing safety procedures and penalties for the city’s construction sites. They include enforcement sweeps at thousands of construction sites, new supervision requirements, the addition of 100 building inspectors, and quadrupling penalties for safety lapses. These new procedures follow the investigation into a crane collapse that occurred last year in New York City, which injured three people and killed a pedestrian when the huge machine tipped over succumbing to high winds.
New York City has seen a significant rise in construction-related injuries in the past year. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, New York saw 86 fatal injuries in 2014 related to construction and maintenance occupations. Twenty-four of those incidents involved contact with objects and equipment and 28 were because of falls, slips, and trips. Common injuries associated with construction accidents include lacerations, broken or fractured bones, spinal injuries and brain injuries.
Mr. Moverman has represented hundreds of victims affected by construction accidents and, in some cases, has helped those individuals receive the compensation they deserve. In one case, lawyers from the firm represented a man who was eventually awarded $1.75 million after he fractured his pelvis in a scaffolding fall.
