Construction Accident Lawyer Comments on Recent Worker Death

May 23, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com’s Thomas Moverman commented on the recent death of a Greenwich Village construction worker, expressing his sympathies and stating that unfortunately these situations are not uncommon.

The victim was killed by a falling piece of scaffolding as he was finishing up construction work on a Thursday afternoon in Greenwich Village. When officers arrived on the scene, they found him unconscious on the ground with severe head and neck injuries, according to reports by ABC7. The New York Department of Buildings stated that there were several violations found at the site and the victim’s family are now claiming that the companies employing non-union workers are putting profit ahead of safety.

According to the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), there are about 2.3 million construction workers in the United States at any given time. Of those 2.3 million, almost 65 percent work on scaffolding. Statistics show that on average 60 deaths and 4,500 injuries occur while working on scaffolding every year. Common scaffolding injuries include broken bones, amputations, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and impalement.

The Bureau of Labor statistics stated that in the cases of 72 percent of workers that were injured in scaffolding accidents, the accident was caused either by the planking or support giving way, the employee slipping, or being struck by a falling object.

Lawyers at Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman are currently looking to assist individuals who have been injured in a construction accident. Mr. Moverman has represented hundreds of victims involved in these accidents and, in some cases, has helped those individuals receive the compensation they deserve. One victim represented by Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman was awarded $2.6 million after he suffered fractured ribs and an injured spine following a fall from defective scaffolding.
