CREOLE GLOBAL announces the winners of the only music competition for world music in Germany

After a thrilling battle between 18 bands the winners of ‘creole global’ were announced at WERK-STATT DER KULTUREN, the premier venue for global music and world jazz in Berlin.
What did the jury have to say about the winners?
Gruberich
Chairwoman of the jury Bisseh Akamé says, “The imaginative compositions were realised with vir-tuosity and were accompanied by an accuracy of playing at a high technical level”. The band is steeped in classical and chamber music, spherical sounds from the harpist, experi-mental notes from the violoncello and a lot of yearning from the accordion.
Lao Xao Trio
The band impressed the jury with their “quality in building the show, the sophisticated composi-tions and Khanh Nguyen’s exceptional voice”. The German Lao Xao Trio weaves a delicate sound web that holds together musical inspirations from world music, pop, jazz to Vietnamese traditional music.
Willy Sahel
Chad born Willy was recognised by the judges for his “in-depth fusion which created a special mu-sical identity”.
The rhythms of Sai pop music from Chad are soulfully blended with jazz and delivered in Mbay-Kan, Willy Sahel’s mother tongue. “His stage presence and charisma were breathtaking and his performance is truly authentic“, says Bisseh Akamé.
