On Dragon Wings Studio has launched a new website to showcase its needlepoint designs and art plus its online shop. The site and store stock many animal and floral needlepoint designs and specialize in producing custom pet portraits.

On Dragon Wings Studio is owned by Shelly Hawley-Yan who has always had outed an interest in art and design. Shelly has work as a forensic biologist and has taught at the Botanic Institute before opening her needlepoint and art studio. The site states that her background in biology has allowed Shelly to add more believability and accuracy to her designs. Shelly’s designs have appeared in The Journal of Family Life, the Birth Gazette and many other publications.

The site explains that its specialist area is custom creating portraits of customers pets. Shelly works from customers photographs to create the portraits and uses several photographs to capture the pets personality. The finished pieces are available in full colour, black ink or sepia ink and can be created in a variety of sizes.

Also available are limited edition art prints that come in regular and miniature sizes. They are all signed and numbered prints and some are silk screen printed by hand with hand coloring by the artist. Designs are based on animals and plants.

Needlepoint and petitpoint charts are stocked in the online store and custom designs can be requested from the artist. Charts designed by the artist are available for rugs, samplers and cushions to be stitched by the customer.The designs are mainly based on animals such as cats and dogs and each design come with information on colors and recommendations for which type of silks and gauge of gauze to use when making up the designs.

The website also provides a selection of free needlepoint patterns for visitors to the site to enjoy. There are simple cat and dog designs for the beginner to get started on and more complicated Celtic knot and bird designs for the more experienced of enthusiasts. Each design also comes with recommended silk types and dimensions of the finished piece.
