Sayreville, Parlin dentist, Dr. Mariana Blagoev is launching a charitable campaign by taking advantage of the selfie popularity. She is inviting everyone to take a selfie and share it online. For each picture shared on social media, Dr. Blagoev will donate one meal to the food bank at First Presbyterian Church of South Amboy.

Since the word “selfie” was added to the dictionary in 2013, the selfie craze has only been increasing. According to Google, there were more than 24 billion selfies uploaded to their photo app in 2015. Everyone from celebrities to politicians is obsessed with taking snapshots of themselves every day.

Family dentist Dr. Blagoev decided to use this new cultural phenomenon to help hungry families. If people enjoy taking photos of themselves for fun, they will be even more excited to do it for a charitable cause.

When asked why she decided to donate a meal on behalf of each person who takes a selfie, Dr Blagoev explained, “It is a growing problem. Food demands at the local food pantries have increased and yet food donations have decreased. Hungry families and children need help all year round and we all can help them together.”

She thought of this idea after reading about the rising selfie phenomenon. “I take selfies with my family. I thought why not make this a fun event where we could share our smiles, and at the same time make a family in need smile too?”

Dr. Blagoev is encouraging everyone to participate in the selfie program to help the local community. She called this the “Share a Smile, Make a Smile” program.

Dr Blagoev’s dental office has been providing cosmetic and family dental services to the local residents in Parlin, Sayreville, and Old Bridge Township for over 20 years. With numerous food drives, free dental days, and other social events, Dr. Blagoev has been featured on CBS, FOX, NBC network news.
