Diagnosing Ovarian Cancer: Identifying The Disease At The Center Of Talcum Powder Lawsuit Filings

October 13, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports on the ways in which ovarian cancer can be diagnosed in women.

According to ovarian.org, several tests can be used to detect ovarian cancer. Healthcare professionals may use a pelvic exam, transvaginal sonography or a CA-125 test to search for signs of ovarian cancer. While pelvic exams are recommended annually for women beginning at age 18, transvaginal sonography and CA-125 tests are aimed more specifically at identifying ovarian cancer. A transvaginal sonography involves an ultrasound, specifically for women at high risk for ovarian cancer, or for those with an abnormal pelvic exam, the source said. A CA-125 test is a blood test that determines if the level of CA-125, a protein produced by ovarian cancer cells, has increased in the blood of a woman at high risk for ovarian cancer, or a woman with an abnormal pelvic examination.

These tests have become particularly important for many women as ovarian cancer is placed at the forefront of ongoing lawsuits involving a connection between talcum powder products and the deadly disease. The first talcum powder lawsuit was filed in 2009 by a woman from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The woman was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2006 when she was 49 years old, according to an article by Huffington Post. The plaintiff filed the complaint claiming Johnson & Johnson should be held accountable for gross negligence and fraud. Though a jury confirmed the association between cancer and talcum powder, the plaintiff was offered no compensatory damages.

Banville Law has many years of experience fighting large pharmaceutical companies who have put dangerous drugs and devices onto the market, foregoing public safety for corporate greed.

The firm is looking to assist those who believe they have been directly affected by the use of Johnson’s talcum powder. Affected individuals may be entitled to financial compensation and legal action. Banville Law is currently offering free consultations to individuals who qualify.
