Doctor Noorchashm Campaigns Against Power Morcellation And Uterine Cancer

January 14, 2016 – – Banville Law reports on the progress made by Doctor Hooman Noorchashm in his battle against power morcellation and uterine cancer. Doctor Noorchashm is currently employed as a cardiac surgeon at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Pennsylvania. For some time now, he has been pursuing a campaign against power morcellator devices when used for gynecological surgery. His sudden passionate pursuit began shortly after his wife underwent the procedure, and was suddenly diagnosed with advanced uterine cancer post-surgery, a disease which she still fights, today.

Over the last two years since his wife initially received this diagnosis, the doctor has actively challenged the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and has written poignant letters to medical facilities, physicians, and even Congress addressing what he feels is an incredibly pressing issue which could affect the lives of many women.

His wife, also a physician, underwent what should have been a routine hysterectomy two years ago. Surgeons opted to use a laparoscopic power morcellator device for the procedure, as it was minimally invasive and allowed her a faster recovery time. The device was inserted into her lower abdomen through a small incision, where it rapidly spun blades in order to shred apart fibroid tissue, so that it could later be removed from the body.

Both she and her husband allege, however, that as the device did this, it uncovered and spread previously undetected cancer cells which were encapsulated within her uterine fibroids. By spreading these cells with its whipping motion, the device created an advanced, wide-spread, and high-grade cancer which does not easily respond to cancer treatments. Had the cells not been spread by the morcellator, the couple believes they would have been much less aggressive and much more treatable. Instead, today, as his wife’s disease continues to spread, Dr. Noorchashm continues his campaign against the devices, hoping to save other women from the same tragic fate.

Dr. Noorchashm and his wife are not alone in their fight. Across the U.S., many women have stepped forward filing lawsuits against morcellator devices and alleging much the same. Several lawsuits have had to be pursued by family members of the victims as the victims themselves have passed away due to aggressive and fatal cancers.

The attorneys at Banville Law understand how devastating a cancer diagnosis can be, and they are dedicated to helping women who have not filed suit yet, but who have received a cancer diagnosis after undergoing power morcellation to fully explore their legal rights. These women may be entitled to significant compensation. At this time, Banville Law is offering free consultations to women affected by this deeply serious issue.
