As a company spokesperson noted, Pisko founded Cape Dory Rigging back in 2011 when he built the first prototype of the Dory. The original boat shoe sandal was made out of used sandals and an old purse. While it was not the fanciest shoe ever made and rather crude in its construction, Pisko was pleased enough with the shoe to make it the foundational design for a comfortable and fresh footwear design that will not take on water.

“Five years and dozens of prototypes later, Cape Dory Rigging is ready to share the Dory with the world–and give everyone the chance to enjoy this comfortable and stylish hybrid,” the spokesperson said, adding that Dorys are perfect for people who love being outside, on the water or at the beach.

“Their comfort and breathability provides relief from warm weather, while enjoying the occasional beach day or out enjoying summer nights.”

The current version of Dorys is not made from second hand sandals and purses; instead, the shoe features a cork and latex footbed, a comfort dry inner lining and an innovative wraparound lacing system. The shoes will be made from high quality and heavyweight canvas, genuine leather and durable laces.

In order to help pay for the first production run of the Dorys, Pisko and his talented team recently launched a fundraiser on Kickstarter. There, they hope to raise $36,000 through crowdfunding. People who contribute to the campaign will enjoy special prices and deals on the Dorys and get the chance to experience the comfortable boat shoe.

“We want everyone to be able to enjoy the comfort and style of our Dorys, so now is your chance to get our Dorys for an incredible introductory price of $50 limited to 200 pairs,” the spokesperson said.
