E-Cig Explosion Victim Loses Eye As Potential E-Cigarette Lawsuit Cases Increase
July 25, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on an NBC Los Angeles news story about an Orange County man who sustained injuries from an e-cigarette which exploded while he was using it. The victim lost an eye after the exploding device sent debris flying at his head. He also sustained broken orbital and sinus bones. According to the news report, because of his experience the victim hopes to use injuries and his story of what happened to him to raise some level of awareness in the public and among other e-cig users about the potential dangers of using the devices. It was not long after the Orange County explosion that Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill raising the smoking age in California from 18 to 21. The bill would prohibit individuals under 21 from buying tobacco products for all uses including chewing, vaping, and smoking.
Attorney Marc Freund of LipsigLawyers.com commented on the Orange County, California incident extending his best wishes to the victim. He stated that he is hopeful that this incident will serve as an example to other potential e-cigarette users and the public of the possible risks involved with using e-cigarettes.
A comprehensive timeline denoting all e-cigarette explosions has been created by TheProductLawyers.com. The Orange County explosion that occurred on April 15th is one of 19 e-cigarette explosions reported in California since 2009. This number of California incidences represents 10 percent of all e-cigarette explosions that have occurred up to the present time. Many hope that the implementation of the new bill will assist in decreasing the number of e-cig-related explosions that take place.
