E-Cig Lawsuit Filed By Queens Resident Following Severe Leg Burns Sustained In E-Cigarette Explosion
June 03, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on the details regarding a recent e-cigarette explosion that occurred in Queens, New York. NBCNewYork.com shares details outlining the events that occurred, which include a Queens woman suffering from serious burn wounds following the alleged explosion of her e-cigarette. The victim claims that she had the device in her pocket, when it exploded, causing a tear to her jeans and damage to the skin on her knee.
This e-cigarette explosion occurred on April 7, 2016, while the victim was in the process of parking her car. The explosion was most likely triggered from the instability of the lithium-ion battery used to power most e-cigarette devices, in this case, the battery became permanently planted into her dashboard. “I was in shock, like, I didn’t suspect anything would happen, I didn’t even know what was happening, everything happened so fast,” claimed the victim following the incident. The woman was taken to a local hospital where doctors concluded she had sustained 3rd-degree burns, and would need surgery to repair the skin on her knee.
Regrettably, this is not the first e-cigarette explosion, and undoubtedly will not be the last incident. Since e-cigarettes were introduced to consumers in 2007, FEMA has received reports of over 25 explosions. A few weeks following the incident in Queens, The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported on a similar incident involving a Fulton man. Their release states that a local male was carrying his e-cigarette in his pocket when it exploded leaving him covered in a black soot, and seeking medical treatment for the burns he obtained.
