E-Cig Lawsuit Filed For Brooklyn Boy Severely Injured In E-Cigarette Explosion
June 02, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on one of the latest e-cig explosions, where a 14-year-old boy in Brooklyn sustained significant injuries from an e-cig explosion in the Kings Plaza Mall. Pix11.com reports that the 14-year-old victim is now blind in his left eye due to a scratch through his cornea and may also have permanent damage to his hands from the explosion.
The victim stated “The guy was showing me different products of the vaporizers, and while he was showing me, he connected one of the vaporizers to the battery of the store. He gave it to me to hold and when I was holding it, it exploded in my hands and my face.” Not only is this incident significant because of the explosion, additionally both state and local laws prohibit the sale of tobacco products to minors.
FEMA concludes that since 2009, there have been at least 25 reported e-cig explosions. Additionally, the actual number of explosions is probably far greater than 25 due to underreporting. Another e-cig explosion occurred in Arizona, a few months prior to the incident in Brooklyn, where a local resident stated that while he was driving, 2 extra e-cigarette batteries that were in his pocket engulfed his lower body with flames. The Arizona native sustained extensive burns to his legs, his hands, and is fortunate to have walked away from the incident.
Shortly after the Brooklyn teen sustained the significant injuries from the e-cig explosion, his father hired attorney Marc Freund to represent his son. Freund emphasizes that “ There was not even a single sign advising of the city and state law until after this incident takes place.” He also states that the victim was marketed to at the entrance of the mall, and presses on to express the dangers of marketing these products to children.
