E-Cigarette Explosion Badly Wounds Florida Native, Spurs Potential E-Cig Explosion Lawsuit Cases
June 17, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on the news story of a Vietnam veteran whose e-cigarette reportedly exploded while in use. His story, which included damage to his home and disfigurement of his face, was covered by ABC News. The resident of Niceville, Florida was smoking his e-cigarette when it suddenly exploded in his face, causing extensive damage to his mouth and igniting a fire in his home. His wife heard the firecracker-like explosion while in her study, reported a neighbor who was interviewed by ABC. The man lost all of his teeth and suffered serious damage to his tongue from the explosion. He required extensive treatment in a local burn unit to help him recover from the incident.
Fire Chief Butch Parker was on the scene and said that he had never responded to such an incident before, which he described as if the man had fireworks exploding in his mouth. Parker said it was likely that the lithium-ion type battery in the e-cigarette was defective. This could lead to the explosion and flames that many users have reported when their devices exploded. A growing number of electronic cigarette users are sharing unfortunate stories like these.
Severe home damage is a theme present in many reports of e-cigarette explosions. The Florida resident is not alone in his experience. One woman is reported to have sustained in excess of $100,000 in damage to her house after flames ignited it during an e-cigarette explosion in her home. These devices are getting more popular, and so the number of reports of unfortunate incidents involving e-cigarettes are increasing as well.
