E-Cigarette Explosion Lawsuit Cases Likely To Follow Southern Arizona E-Cig Explosion

June 21, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com’s Marc Freund recently commented on a development in southern Arizona where a local 17-year-old Arizona girl was severely wounded by an e-cigarette explosion on May 9th. Freund hopes that her planned surgery was successful and that she plans on exploring her complete legal options and rights. Attorney Freund also notes that this is not the first e-cig explosion that has injured a user’s face, and he hopes this case can serve as an example to other e-cig users of the potential risks associated with the device.

As reported by ABC 15 Arizona, a local teen girl claims that she was getting ready to use her e-cigarette when it inexplicably exploded, catching her clothes on fire and leaving her with severe burns to her chest, arms, hands, and side. The victim claimed that the explosion “was like a bomb going off,” and that “I was freaking out, my teeth were chattering, and I was shaking so bad,” following the incident. The victim was treated at a Burn Unit at Maricopa Integrated Health System, and following her surgery was expected to remain in the hospital for at least 1-2 weeks for further treatment.

A detailed timeline from TheProductLawyers.com has indicated there have been 199 reported e-cig explosions since 2009, and that 133 of those explosions occurred in the United States. Since e-cigarettes were introduced to consumers in 2009, there have been 11 incidents in Arizona alone, which is the second highest total number of explosions in one state. Most importantly, the timeline indicates that 2016’s current total of explosions of 77 is on track to greatly exceed the combined total number of explosions from the two previous years, which was 85. This statistic emerges as the rate of consumer use increases.
