E-Cigarette Explosions Cause Severe Burns And Prompt Potential E-Cig Lawsuit Filings

June 06, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com announces that there have been several reports in the media describing serious injuries users sustained when electronic cigarettes exploded in their pockets. Exploding e-cigs, which contain lithium-ion batteries, are especially dangerous when carried on the person. These explosions often project the devices at high speeds as well as cause fires which can not only cause damage to property but severe burns to the user and those nearby.

A woman from Richmond Hill in Queens reported an incident in April which was covered by NBC 4 in New York. She was carrying her electronic cigarette in her jeans pocket when the device exploded and shot through her pant into the car’s dashboard. Parking her car at the time of the explosion, she described the shock of the e-cigarette exploding as a firecracker being launched from her pocket. Her leg was severely burned, and incident caught her by surprise, happening in an instant. She reported that she was in complete shock afterward. She is not alone in receiving injury from such a device while carried in a pants pocket. Unfortunately, the outcome of some e-cig explosions is even more tragic, as one Kentucky man discovered.

CNN reported in February about a man from Kentucky with an electronic cigarette which exploded while he was at a gas station. He was carrying the device in his pocket, when flames engulfed his lower torso, producing severe burns on his right leg after the electronic cigarette battery exploded. This e-cigarette explosion victim was somewhat fortunate. Noticing that the man was in danger, a quick-thinking employee at the gas station came to the rescue. The employee said that he located a fire extinguisher and extinguished the spreading flames, quite possibly saving the man’s life.
