Ecommerce Vendor Shopclues Acquired By Qoo10

November 12, 2019 – – Sunsella, a company based in Las Vegas, Nevada, that offers home and kitchen products online, has announced that Singapore’s Qoo10 has acquired Indian e-commerce vendor ShopClues in a stock deal. The stock deal will grant access to over 700,000 small and micro-merchants to global markets through Qoo10’s presence in Southeast Asia.

Qoo10 offers its services to small and medium business enterprises through its localized online marketplaces in Singapore, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Hong Kong. The merger will provide its merchants with access to the vast Indian market as Qoo10 plans to further expand into other Asian countries.

Previously, ShopClues had approached Snapdeal for a possible buyout but the talks did not prosper because of its substantial accumulated liabilities. There have been reports that ShopClues had failed to pay some vendors, withholding the cash in order to be able to fund its daily operations.

ShopClues was established in July 2011 and had raised $255.9 million in funding. It had raised approximately INR 110 crore in funding in 2018 from current investors. However, it has suffered losses of more than INR 200 crore in the year 2017 to 2018. The company had losses of INR 347.15 crore in fiscal year 2017 and in fiscal year 2018, the revenue from its operations was only INR 271.29 crore.
