Deana’s Educational Theater Company is a nonprofit organization located in Wakefield, MA that offers interactive, performance-based presentations that cover important social issues. The aim of each production is to educate the audience about dating violence, bullying, cyber bullying, relationship violence, sexual coercion, harassment and respect.

For the past 22 years, this progressive educational theater company has been at the forefront of broaching difficult social subjects with people of all ages in all types of venues. Their educational programs consist of an interactive performance followed by a question and answer period, each lasting approximately 30-minutes in duration.

Deana’s Educational Theater is thrilled to have received a generous grant from The Honey Dew Family Foundation which has allowed them to create the play Remote Control to address the growing concern of “Hooking Up and Relationship Violence” on college campuses.

Executive Director Christine Shaw explains how Remote Control and all of their other programs are created:

“The issues, attitudes, and language used in all of our plays have been carefully researched and all of our programs are created with the assistance of young people, artists, and experts in the fields of violence prevention and education. This allows us to gauge whether students can relate easily to the characters and stories depicted.

Our programs also educate audiences about the reality of violence and they invoke the very powerful emotions that arise in these types of situation. Students are empowered to take a stand, make a change in their school and community. Based on the feedback received, DET knows that their programs have both an immediate and long term impact on audiences, no matter what their age.”

Please do not hesitate to contact Deana’s Educational Theater Company for more information about their programs, or if they can be of any assistance in helping educate students or communities about dating violence, relationship violence, bullying, cyber bullying, sexual coercion, harassment and respect.
