During World War II, Japanese-Americans were forced into internment camps, locked away as criminals despite a complete lack of criminal actions. As a spokesperson for the new film noted, fear convinced many Americans that this was the correct course, assuming this was protecting their country.

“Decades later, the idea of forcing an ethnic group or culture into camps seems like a barbaric notion to most, but history is repeating itself,” the spokesperson noted, adding that after tragic events and continuous threats across the globe, American politicians and citizens are openly discussing the possibility of forcing Islamic and Arab Americans to report to the government for surveillance.

“The possibility is becoming too real with an incoming president supporting this tracking of selected citizens and residents, and it’s all being discussed in the new film Executive Order 13800.”

Sakai and Zeno played with the idea of creating this movie even before the new president was elected in November, 2016, but the results made it clear to them that the film needed to be made.

Executive Order 13800 follows the story of an Arab-American family forced to gather their belongings and report following the second major terrorist attack to hit the U.S. in one month.

“The executive order issued by our new President revokes their civil rights, forcing a curfew upon them and preventing them from displaying any evidence of their faith,” the spokesperson said, adding that the threat of violence is constant.

This film presents a scary and very real possibility, the spokesperson said, forcing viewers to take a serious look at the possibility of such an order coming to fruition.

In order to help pay for the production costs associated with producing Executive Order 13800, Sakai and Zeno recently launched a fundraiser on Indiegogo. There, they hope to raise $50,000 through crowdfunding.
