Father Of 14-Year-Old Boy Allegedly Partially Blinded Following E-Cigarette Explosion Pursues Lawsuit

May 29, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on a news release from New York Daily News with updates regarding the owner of an e-cigarette shop in a Brooklyn mall kiosk where a young 14-year-old boy was allegedly blinded in his left eye when one of the e-cigarette devices there exploded in his hands. The story indicates that the owner of the shop “was previously convicted for his role in a ring selling illegal bath salts.”

With further details, the release states “ . . . the owner of Vape On in the Kings Plaza Mall in Mill Basin was one of 15 people arrested in 2011 for involvement in a Seattle-based ring that sold $2 million worth of the synthetic stimulant in shops in Manhattan and Brooklyn.”

Prior reports noted that the young boy had traveled to the mall with a group of friends on April 5, 2016, when they stopped to visit the Vape shop. It is alleged that a salesperson there began to show the group products, and had plugged an e-cigarette into the wrong battery when it suddenly exploded in the child’s hands, sending shards of metal into his eyes, and causing him to suffer chemical burns and scarring.

In the aftermath of this troubling incident, the boy and his father have chosen to pursue legal action. Their attorney, Marc Freund of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman, noted that the kiosk was able to operate without insurance and to target minors without displaying any of the city-mandated signage. “This is shockingly reckless disregard for child safety by the mall,” Freund told the news outlet.

Attorney Freund is currently helping several clients pursue legal action following alleged e-cigarette explosion injuries, including a woman from New York who was reportedly parking her car when her e-cigarette device exploded, causing her to suffer painful burns to her leg, and launching the device into her dashboard. He has recommended that anyone who has suffered injuries following an e-cigarette explosion should take advantage of the opportunity to evaluate their legal options in the matter. Those affected may be entitled to significant compensation gained through legal action.
