North Austin, where Johnson Fine Floors is located, has been growing consistently for almost a decade now. According to Austin city-level population estimates released on May 13th, Georgetown, is the fastest-growing U.S. city with more than 50,000 new residents. It grew by an eye opening 7.8 percent from mid-2014 through mid-2015, adding 4,611 residents and raising its population from 59,105 to 63,716.

The City of Austin’s growth — Travis, Hays, Bastrop, Caldwell and Williamson counties — was at a slower clip than its outskirts neighbors between 2014 and 2015, expanding by 2.1 percent with the addition of 19,117 residents to rise to a population of 931,830. Leander, which is in Williamson County, was the third-fastest growing city in all of Central Texas, expanding 37.6 percent with the addition of 8,756 residents — from 23,295 residents to 32,051. Cedar Park, which is just North of Austin along Highway 183, was next, growing ing by 35.5 percent over the past five years with 15,954 new residents to increase the city’s population from 44,887 to 70,841.

Georgetown ranks No. 5 for growth in the Austin area, expanding 27.2 percent during the past five years with the addition of 11,993 new residents to raise its population from 44,109 to 59,102.

Still, growth like that, excellent by national standards, has reflected in rising residential values. For greater context, Charlotte, N.C. has a population of 2.4 million and Indianapolis, IA has 1.9 million people. But the median home price in Austin exceeds Charlotte and Indianapolis by quite a bit. With such a redistribution of living spaces, Austin residential renovations and home improvement spending has been on an enviable upward trend. Thirty percent of home purchases were from first-time buyers, and single women bought homes at twice the rate of single men. Of the most popular home improvement projects. Flooring renovation has seen a particularly notable rise. Swapping out old floors for the new innovative hardwood, stone and laminate flooring has been a favorite of Interior Designers and homeowners alike.

Five of the six largest luxury housing markets in the state (Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, Midland, and Corpus Christi) experienced significant gains in home sales priced at $1 million and up.

Another fact that bodes well for Home Improvement industry in Austin, the Capitol city’s median income increased by a generous 9.7 percent, contributing to it’s current status as a top city for young entrepreneurs and startups.

There is also a demographic story to this growth: Austin’s millennial population is growing faster than almost anywhere in America. By comparison, only Charlotte, North Carolina’s 30.7 percent growth, and Houston, at 17.4 percent, were ahead of Austin. Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio saw their millennial populations rise by 6.7 and 5.8 percent, respectively. The home ownership rate among millennials however went down.
