Florida Man Seriously Injured By E-Cig Explosion, Potential E-Cigarette Explosion Lawsuit Cases Likely To Follow

June 17, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on two e-cigarette explosion stories, which were in the news recently, including one which caused extensive property damage and significant injury. A 57-year-old Florida man stated that his severe burns and tooth loss were caused by an e-cigarette explosion, as reported by ABC News. The retired Vietnam veteran’s electronic cigarette suddenly exploded in his mouth while he was smoking it. He required an extended recovery at a Florida burn center and after sustaining extensive damage to his mouth. His wife reportedly heard the firecracker-like sound from the explosion, which was loud enough to be heard from another room. Responding to the incident was North Bay Fire District Fire Chief, who told ABCnews that this was the first time he had seen anything quite like the e-cigarette explosion. He described it as a “bottle rocket in his mouth.” He determined the root cause to likely be a defective lithium-ion battery in the device. In addition to the blast from the explosion which knocked out all of the man’s teeth and removed part of his tongue, the flames also set fire to his home.

In addition to the tragic injuries which have been reported as a result of an e-cigarette explosion, many incidents have also caused significant property damage. The flames from exploding e-cigarettes can spray over a wide area, igniting furniture, drapes, and rugs, among other things. One woman had over $100,000 damage to her home after an e-cigarette explosion. As these devices grow in popularity the number of explosion reports has grown as well.
