ABOUT Making the Arts Real for Youth, m.a.r.y. foundation: Krickett Jones Halpern established the m.a.r.y. foundation in 2013 to guide children to develop greater coping skills with their emotions and build their resilience through the arts and to honor all mothers for their determination, struggles, and accomplishments.

The m.a.r.y. foundation, Mary’s legacy is dedicated to bringing creative arts to all children and truly Making the Arts Real for Youth.

RESEDA, CA – Families with children who love embracing the arts and being creative can register to attend the FREE 7th m.a.r.y.’s day event on Sunday, September 22, 2019. It’s a day of collaborative, artful fun with puppet making, art-car racing, bingo, live music, and watercolor, clay, and found object workshops provided by local children’s art studios, Petit Bizoo Encino, and Art and Play Sherman Oaks, and non-profit Mindful Warrior Project.

“It will be a great family day enjoyed by all ages!” says founder Krickett, when asked about the reasons behind creating this event, she said it was an honorary tribute to her mother, Mary Jones. “My mom who grew up facing struggles, pain, and sorrow no child should have to endure and always wanted to learn to watercolor yet never did. This is a way to honor her and offer this opportunity for children to express themselves and foster their social, emotional, life skills, building their resilience and emotional strength.”

The first 100 children in line for the event will receive a goodie bag of giveaways; coupons from Menchie’s, CPK, Red Robin; and other goodies. Families will enjoy free yogurt from Menchie’s University Encino and free Mr. FLAV drinks.

There will be entertainment and live music provided by the local band, The Valley Playas. The event runs from 2:33-5:33 PM.

One Generation is hosting the event at 18255 Victory Blvd, Reseda, CA 91335.

Research suggests that art and music are essential to the learning process to grow the imagination and develop critical thinking skills. Studies have proven that the arts increase problem-solving skills and overall cognitive development. The m.a.r.y. foundation does just that, “Making the Arts Real for Youth,” by bringing creative professionals and children together to guide their social, emotional, and life skills through interactive arts education. The m.a.r.y. foundation nurtures each and every child through the arts to develop a growth mindset. (Dweck C. 2006. Mindset. New York: Ballantine).
