As a spokesperson for the performance noted, Free Your Mind, Free Yourself aims to give audiences a simple message: if they free their minds, they will end up freeing themselves.
“One must show society what they are meant to be, fully embracing their own person, and this unique show will encourage others to do that,” the spokesperson said.
“We are humans. We are society. We all matter. On different levels, we all have an impact on each other and need each other. And at the end of the day, we’re just and only evolved animals with basic needs at the core: health and love.”
The show consists of two plays directed by Renoly Santiago, dances choreographed by Kianna Moye and Katie Kilbourn, and a display of other arts.
Play number one is called Prejudice, and follows two roommates, stuck together because of a tornado, as they navigate from extreme dislike to finding they have a lot more in common than they thought.
The next play, the spokesperson noted, is Ride, and tells the story of how an attractive young actress, lost and unsatisfied, learns how a Turkish taxi bike driver with an unglamorous lifestyle found himself grounded and happy. The show also features contemporary dances, meant to convey their own messages through movement.
“We will take you on a journey to freedom by making you laugh, cry, wonder and dream,” the spokesperson said.
In order to help cover the production costs associated with bringing the play to the public, Dehave recently launched a fundraiser on Indiegogo. She hopes to raise $4,000 through crowdfunding to help pay for the space, the design, the costumes, the prints and the team – everything that will help bring this innovative show to appreciative audiences.
