COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Aug 31, 2015 – Sharon Kwok will give a presentation at the 4th annual Fins Attached silent auction fundraiser, Saving Our Seas from a Mile High. The event will be Sunday, November 1 at the Denver Art Museum in Colorado at 4:00 p.m.
Kwok is and artist, actress, and a naturalist at heart. Kwok is a Eurasian born in Hong Kong who grew up in San Francisco. As a fine artist, Sharon held her first exhibition at age 17. As an actress, she has been featured in over a dozen movies and all Hong Kong TV stations as well as abroad. Today, Sharon Kwok has completely devoted herself to conservation work. A director of WildAid and Mission Blue, she founded AquaMeridian Conservation & Education Foundation Hong Kong to contribute to the preservation of biodiversity via revolutionizing conservation in China and other parts of Asia. Simple changes in Chinese traditions such as consumers’ views of wildlife products, or consideration of natural resources would have critical impact.
“I am driven by what is happening to our oceans and especially sharks,” says Sharon. “We have not been proper custodians of life on our planet. We no longer have the luxury of being indifferent and each one of us can make a difference. Together, we can protect biodiversity one species at a time while preserving habitats for our own sake as well as future generations. The goals of Fins Attached and AquaMeridian and very much alighted.”
Alex Antoniou, CEO of Fins Attached says, “We are truly grateful for Sharon’s support in helping us raise funds for Fins Attached research and conservation efforts, and by funding research and expanding our shark conservation and education programs, Fins Attached has made great strides in raising awareness about sharks around the world.”
Last year’s event raised $29,000 and the goal for the 2015 fundraiser is to raise $45,000. Tickets for the event are $25 pre-paid or $35 at the door and 100 percent of the proceeds benefit shark research and conservation. Fins Attached members at the “Whale Shark” level can gain free access to the fundraiser.
