Get to Know FunGig Founder Steve Young

July 11, 2017 – – San Diego, California, July 11, 2017 – FunGig was founded by Steve Young in 2017 as a way to get people out and enjoying all of the fun things to do in San Diego. The company wants the public to learn how this San Diegan, by way of Kalamazoo, Michigan, was inspired to start the company.

Steve spent six years in the Marine Corps which is what originally brought him to San Diego. Before being transferred out of state, he had met a girlfriend and been forever influenced by all of the great things to do in San Diego.

In 1992 when he got out of the Marines, Steve and his wife decided that a return to San Diego was in order. In America’s Finest City he could enjoy the fantastic weather, workout, and get outdoors where he could run and rollerblade year-round. During runs down to Mission Bay he noticed all the people enjoying being outside by participating in activities like fishing, playing soccer, rollerblading, biking, doing yoga, flying kites, windsurfing, and more. He began thinking of ways to help people to retrain their brains to get together, share fun activities, and maybe even make a little money while doing so.

Steve was into boating, and had a boat, but would get frustrated that his friends did not always chip in for gas when they went on the boat or were not always willing or available to spend the day boating when he was. The times when he and his friends could align their schedules to get out on the boat were too few and far between, so he eventually gave up the boat. He realized that an app like FunGig would have helped him find new friends to enjoy boating and help cover the cost maintaining and taking out the boat. Thus, FunGig was born.
