Good Neighbors Korea–United Nations Project Procurement Organization, Emergency aid for Covid-19 diagnostic kit to Myanmar
Myanmar’s government has been on high alert for the Covid-19, taking steps such as closing educational institutions and restricting cross-regional movement to contain the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic
Seoul,, Republic of Korea – December 21, 2020 / / —
Good Neighbors Korea (www.goodneighbors.kr), an International Relief and Development NGO, announced that they had received about $710,000 in funding from the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) to deliver Covid-19 Diagnostic Kits (RT-PCR) to Myanmar. This was the first case for a Korean NGO to support Korean Covid 19 diagnostic kits overseas.
Myanmar’s government has been on high alert for the Covid-19, taking steps such as closing educational institutions and restricting cross-regional movement to contain the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, due to the insufficiency of diagnostics kits and inadequate medical systems, limited access to conducting Covid-19 tests has raised the concern for the safety of Myanmar’s children and residents. With collaboration with UNOPS in Myanmar, Good Neighbors Myanmar supports testing kits to public health facilities and emergency health centers to facilitate the accurate monitoring of the Covid-19 situation and strengthen the response capacity of health authorities.
With the cooperation of the Myanmar government, Good Neighbors has provided 10,000 diagnostic kits (RT-PCRs), which can test up to 25,000 people in 11 regions, and plans to provide 60,000 UTM (Universal Transport Medium)s in the future to protect the lives of the most vulnerable by delivering essential services to the communities that are threatened by Covid-19.
Jang Eun-chang, Representative of Good Neighbors Myanmar, stated, “It is urgent for countries like Myanmar, that are vulnerable to health care, because of poor conditions and lack of medical facilities, to support Covid-19. We will do our best to strengthen cooperation with international organizations so that we can reach out to the countries where support is needed most.”
Meanwhile, Good Neighbors Korea has distributed the Covid-19 Emergency Relief Guidelines and provides humanitarian assistance, with 39 partnership countries worldwide. In the future, Good Neighbors International plans to expand emergency relief projects, including support for Covid-19 diagnosis kits and sanitary kits, and food aid, depending on the damage caused to each country.
