The Birth of an Iconic Show

The origins of Motor City Musical date back to 1988 when Elizabeth Wylde, now CEO of GTS Theatre, was tasked with creating a tribute to the Golden 13 – the first African American Naval Officers at Great Lakes Naval Base. This project laid the foundation for what would later become a staple in the Myrtle Beach entertainment scene. The show, which highlights the cultural and historical impact of Motown music, was first conceived as a one-time tribute but grew into a long-standing and beloved production that continues to captivate audiences today.

Bringing Motown to Myrtle Beach

In 2016, Elizabeth and her husband Rich Wylde, alongside their family, made the bold decision to establish GTS Theatre in Myrtle Beach, dedicating the venue to showcasing high-quality, family-friendly performances. The opening of GTS Theatre brought the revival of the Original Motown Tribute Show to a permanent stage. Over the years, the show has continued to evolve, with performances reflecting the unique energy and soul of the Motown era. As a result, Motor City Musical has garnered recognition as one of the top attractions in Myrtle Beach, currently ranked as the second most popular venue in the area.

A Family-Centered Vision

The creation of GTS Theatre was deeply influenced by the Wylde family’s passion for entertainment and their personal experiences. Having previously owned the largest comedy club in the Midwest, Dells Comedy Club, the Wyldes had extensive backgrounds in the entertainment industry. However, after a significant personal loss in 2015, Elizabeth and Rich decided to focus on bringing their vision to life in Myrtle Beach. Their commitment to honoring their family’s legacy, as well as Elizabeth’s own history in the entertainment world, helped shape the success of the theater.

Community and Cultural Impact

GTS Theatre is more than just a venue; it is a hub for entertainment that celebrates music, history, and family values. Motor City Musical is a testament to the enduring influence of Motown, and its ongoing success serves as a reminder of the genre’s ability to unite people across generations. The show continues to draw large audiences, offering an unforgettable experience each time the curtain rises.

In addition to the Original Motown Tribute Show – Motor City Musical, GTS Theatre presents a variety of performances. Among them is Elizabeth Wylde’s newest production, “Sound Tracks of Soul Tribute,” which explores the history of soul music and its impact on the Civil Rights Movement. Also appearing on stage at GTS Theatre is the Elton John Tribute Show, featuring impressionist Bill Connors. Another exciting production is “Caravan of Stars,” a tribute to the beloved sock hop days, showcasing hit songs from the 1950s and 1960s, with frontman Lucky Jackson leading the way. Additionally, there’s a Magic and Comedy Show by the world’s most awarded magician, Michael Bairefoot.

Looking Ahead

With the continued success of GTS Theatre and Motor City Musical, Elizabeth Wylde and her family remain committed to providing top-tier entertainment in Myrtle Beach. As the theater celebrates its 37th year of the Original Motown Tribute Show, the Wyldes remain focused on their mission to deliver extraordinary live performances that connect with audiences of all ages.
