Gym Gekko: Sweat Shielding Fitness Towel That Grips
Bethesda, MD – On August 25, 2015, Uy (we) Hoang launched a Kickstarter campaign for Gym Gekko, a new fitness towel with over 2,000 silicone dots that grips to nearly any surface, to shield you from other people’s sweat while absorbing your own.
“As an avid gym goer, I was getting tired of inconsiderate people using a machine and then leaving their sweat behind. My only option was to lay a regular cotton towel down, but then it’s nearly impossible to keep track of which side was the clean one,” the creator explains, “Also, any machine that didn’t have a flat surface like a decline bench pretty much ruled out even using a towel at all. I looked around for a solution, but saw there was none. That’s when I decided to take it into my own hands and create the Gym Gekko.”
The Gym Gekko towel takes care of these problems. It’s engineered with over 2,000 anti-slip silicone dots. This ensures that it grips the bench or machine, to maintain a hygienic barrier between you and shared equipment. And since the silicone dots will always be facing downwards, you can confidently wipe down your own face and body with the soft and absorbent clean side of the towel. The towel is large enough and absorbent enough for you to wipe down the sweat from your own body, yet is lightweight and easy to carry around. Since its microfiber, it’s also a lot softer than those rough cotton gym towels.
“The inspiration for the Gym Gekko is the gecko lizard,” says Hoang, “Both of them can adhere to nearly any surface, so that’s how the name came about. I even chose the flagship color for our towel, green, as an homage to this amazing animal.”
In exchange for pledging to the project, backers can gain access to a variety of rewards including a Gym Gekko logo sticker for $5, one Gym Gekko towel (24”x15”) for the early bird amounts of $10-$15 or the regular Kickstarter amount of $20, and more!
